FM3

No more assistance at the Consulate.

Just take your FMM to the nearest Immigration Office or use an agent.

From what I understand, Consulates are no longer in the FM3/FM2 business.

My suggestion is to get your FMM's, then when you arrive at "home", find an agent (a private business person, someone who specializes in immigration matters) and tell them you want to apply for FM-3/FM-2 status. They will complete all the paperwork and present it to Immigration, along with your FM-3/FM-2 application fees.

It will cost you a few bucks, but will be worth it.

Hmmmmm, after looking at the new regulations, it appears that you must "declare" the type of residency status .....so you apparently go from nothing to a Temporary or Permanent resident........I think I would check with someone who specializes in immigration matters BEFORE you move

I understand the new Resident Permenenta Immigrado permit is not available until the new regulations go into effect the middle of November 2012.

You won't find a specialist in San Diego for Mexican papers.
Has to be done here. You used to be able to start your papers at the Consulate in the states, but I don't know if they handle renewals.

Get a tourist permit FMM to get here with and then find a person in your area to do the paperwork.

Easier and much, much cheaper!

I've found over the years that it easiest to go through a visa agent. Way back when, I tried to do it at a consulate and found that between the Las Vegas consulate and the Sacramento consulate I was getting different answers, and when I got down to Baja I got a third answer. Pay the money and let the agent in Baja handle it. They probably have connections anyway and get away with alot of crap a gringo has no idea how to handle.:yes::yes:or si si si.

I began my FM3 process at the Mexican Embassy in Vancouver Canada,,i paid the fees, and got the Paperwork done,,,then i was told all i8 had to do was to go to the Inmigrante Office ?? in Ensenada and get my six pictures taken,,,no more fees and sign some paper work and wait two weeks.
Well,,i just finalized the process as they suggested in Vancouver,,,in Ensenada,,and it all went smooth,,,told to come back in two weeks for my FM3 card. Presto!!!!!!

That is for FM3, not FM2 or Residente Permanente (which process might be the same - I don't personally know).

And is has to be finished in Mexico.
