Guerro Negro kayaking
Does anyone know if there are any restrictions for kayaking the wetlands area north of Guerrero Negro heading out toward the old pier or along the
sand dunes? I think its a bird sanctuary but not sure about rules for kayaking some of the sloughs in that northern area. I've tried to ask locals
and at our motels but it was blank stare time. Local rules/Gringo rules???
Thanks!

I´ve been kayaking, swimming and launched my zodiac from the Faro fishcamp, with no problem.
Technically the lagoon complex is under the Reserva de la Biosfera watch, you can ask for a permit, but usually theres no one to check.
Keep an eye on the tide, Last time i was there i was nearly stuck walking along the beach when the water suddenly increased level.

GN wetlands
Thanks for the reply! We asked around several trips in a row but came up blank. In the past we got permits for the islands off Loreto and thought the
"protected" area might be under the same process. We've walked all over the dunes also along the leads and shallows but it sure looks like a neat
place to explore from the 'yaks.

I would go to the Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve office and ask there as you might need a daily permit for about $5 to kayak there...ask someone for la
oficina de la Reserva ....or look for the office by turning up off the main street at Lazardi's pizza restaurant...sort of in the middle of town....go
a couple blocks up and it's on the left and has antelope and animals painted on it. The phone # is 615-157-1777...ask for Marisol if possible.
that area is spectacular for kayaking but has very low low tides that will strand you way out...great chocolata clams from the fishermen at el
Faro...the old lighthouse. Another neat spot is along the dunes out the airport road.
enjoy GN!

Scammon´s or Ojo de Liebre its in private land, you´ll need a special permit to cross if you go out of whale watching season (mid Dec - mid March),
but some of the best channels to paddle trough and in winter its heaven for birdwatchers. You can launch and camp from the Casa Mexicana de la Ballena
Gris facilities
North of Ojo de Liebre and Guerrero Negro lagoons, its Laguna Manuela entering by Villa Jesus María, lots of ponds and channels and nice fishing too.
4x4 mandatory, no services, no people.

Yep, upper Mag Bay is on the schedule for this trip too. We will stop by Jesus & Maria on the way down. Bonnie and I are staying at Iguana Inn in
Loreto then when friends show up head over to Mag Bay.

Si, Laguna Manuela has an estuary, mouth of the cove, a few breakers, lots of birds. Access by 2-WD is certainly doable. There is a gringo trailer
residence group on the bluff above the beach. And there used to be a fishsing co-op near the estuary. Go up the hill (deep sand) to the lighthouse
for nice camping spot and a beach cove to launch yaks. Great kayaking, hiking along the coast, and fishing off the rocks.
