Heading to Baja in December for 6 weeks and I am considering having a somewhat simple procedure while there, removal of a nasal polyp. My ENT here
wants $8,000 to remove a skin tag from my nose! I have asked all of the questions and it seems like a simple straight forward procedure- cut the skin
tag out and stop the bleeding.
We will be all over Baja so I'm looking for suggestions on safe facilities to do this procedure, any recommendations?
As always, I recommend Seguro Popular for Americans, which is free in Ensenada. Once examined by a primary physician, you can be referred to an ear,
nose and throat doctor that will do the procedure free of charge. But any certified credentialed ear, nose or throat private pay doctor (known as an
otolaringologo in Mexico) can do it. I know of several good OTL's in Ensenada. You also might try steroidal nose sprays first which might shrink the
polyp. It can be also done as a local procedure depending on the size of the polyp for a few US hundred dollars or less.

Gal who plays soccer and has had her nose broken 3 times in 21 years of life has a nose job with the passages cleared out last December by Dr.
Camarillo - the ear nose and throat Dr. - in Constitucion - for 30,000 pesos - and was delighted with the results.

Drop by my place and I'll do it for a kilo of big shrimp.
Dr. DENNIS .....at your service.
Dr. Dennis, I think you're going toooo tooooo low. He's in Oregon, so you should ask for a couple pounds of that wild salmon from the Columbia River,
and your shrimp. I'm just saying...
Actually it is a very thin bone known as the ethmoid bone. Sometimes they use a metal snare, which is like a very sharp noose that they tighten
around the stem of the polyp, and pull it out. Other times there are many little polyps that need to be scraped out of the nasal cavity. Then a
patient would need general anesthesia. I assisted in many nasal operations in the Military Hospital with the specialist, generally if you have the
right tools and have alot of patience, there is no danger, but blood pressure during extensive nasal surgery needs to be brought extremely low by an
anesthesiologist, and monitored constantly, to keep bleeding to a minimum. I think the best way to go is using steroid spray and see if that works
first.

they use something called the "nibbler"
and they need to put a bannana sized sponge in there for several weeks to heal the repair
I have been using the steroids and it doesn't work. I have been examined by my ENT and there is only 1 polyp. I have had two sinus surgeries in the
past for Rhino somethng something so I,m not really afraid of the procedure, if I could get some nail clippers up to it I'd cut the thing off myself
and call it good.
The polyp needs to be biopsied. It can be a type that can become cancerous and does grow back. Also, if it is attached to that bone, it is not as
simple a procedure to remove.
This polyp can also be in the sinus cavity under your eye. Not as "simple" a procedure to remove from there.
If I shine a light and I can see it it's not real deep in the nasal cavity. I have always heard that "if" you go to the right doctors in Baja they are
very competent and thats who I am looking for, not Dennis the garage doc with a pair of scissors and a soldering iron to stop the bleeding. Sorry
Dennis, I might still give you some shrimp for the laugh
Don't let Dennis fool you, he can't stand the sight of blood, but according to M, he is crustaceous on the outside, but pussycat creamy on the
inside...sounds a little risque to me!!

Get a Dremel tool, a mirror, a flashlight and chug some Jack Daniels.....better to do some things yourself
