San Felipe Road Report 10/16/2012

So the road to and from San Felipe is nearly done. There was 4 miles of dirt driving this morning, however, be very careful on the asphalt as there are areas where a large layer of asphalt is higher than the main road. I hit it at about 40 and thought I pushed my shocks through my hood.

Also, on the way back north, on my way to Fenix, I normally take the airport road over to Nuevo Mexicali. However, the road is closed and you are forced to turn right over towards Costco and Kenworth.

I think the detour will be in place for a while as the road was totally removed.

PS All of you California folks don't need to worry about this unless you are going east or taking the east crossing to avoid the west crossing.

west crossing

We haven't used the west crossing in many years, are the very long delays still the rule of the day? Wonder if I could even find my way...

You might want to reconsider using the west crossing. Hwy 2 from CostCo and East is being dug up and repaired. I had a friend come up from San Felipe late last week and she couldn't get across because of the Hwy construction. There is a map of the ways in and out of Mexicali to the border here, just scroll down a bit:

Drove thru the west border Sunday and drove thru town because I needed something. the road was good all the way. All the detours are gone and it was 3-4 lanes the whole way down I think both borders are equal going back. the construction in town in done from south of town to the west ( downtown border) A few weeks ago I came thru the east border and they were beginning work that way.
Have fun
Mick

Getting there is ALL the fun!
