Road to Las Animas and San Rafael

I have not been down to this area for years. Looking at heading there in about a week and get out before the 1000. I have a Ford F-350 4x4 with cartop boat. It is a heavy truck (10000lbs) Can I make it on the soft sand at Las Animas to the north end of the bay? Also checking to see if Poncho is still around at Playa San Rafael. Any information would be appreciated.

Pancho is still around...we visit him each year before Thanksgiving. His new casa is impressive based on his past dwellings...please report back on your trip.

Launch at the 'ramp', and I use that term loosely, as the sand/pebbles will hold your truck. Then go north but stay to the mountain side of the beech slope - I've been stuck on the beech slope with the tide coming in trying to launch in a Tundra. The guys at the fish camp had pity on the stoopid gringos and after checking to see we had lots of beer, pulled us out with a teeny pickup with a dozen guys in the back jumping up and down. Wish I had the video.....
