Avi's last Baja trip...Zoo Rd. to Diablo Canyon
I met Benny and Avi - two best friends down in San Felipe in Nov. '11 after running the Pole Line Road. Avi drove down in a pristine Toyota Land
Cruiser that he did not want to damage. After inspecting the vehicle, I could see why he would not want it dinged on the Pole Line Road.
Avi drove while Benny snapped pictures and we drove Zoo Road to Diablo Canyon and then on to Hwy 3 and we said our "Goodbyes." Yesterday, Avi was
out hiking and suffered a Heart Attack. These are a collection of photographs from our simple drive and hike in Baja last November. Vaya con Dios,
Avi.
Malecon - San Felipe
Catching up with us at the Diamante - San Felipe
Zoo Road
Slightly turned around...Did we miss the signed exits?
Avi checked the maps with me. Sure enough, we drove past our canyon. That gave Benny more reason to keep photographing. This is what I love about
Baja - every moment is worth capturing.

Avi's beloved Toyota Land Cruiser
We had reached our destination - Caņon del Diablo
The hike is fairly easy. That's Leidys and I standing beside a smooth boulder.
Avi hiked with us, enjoying himself the entire day.

It was nice traveling with you, Avi.

...a few more photos
While Benny and Avi ate, Leidys and I left the Jeep at their Motel and we walked to the Malecon.
We cleared out the Motel room at Diamante and took a few photos
We pointed our vehicle towards the shadow of the Picacho del Diablo as we drove down Zoo Road.
It is quite difficult to get lost, but lost we became as we approached our elusive canyon.
Avi's (RIP) Land Cruiser followed behind.
The landscape is pure desert beauty.
Here, we arrived at our hiking destination.
Beginning our hike up the canyon - we didn't begin until 1:30 - not optimal, but this is Baja not Wall Street.
Leidys didn't mind - she had fun!
Benny showing the fun spirit that he embodies.
Avi (RIP) showing that he needed to stop for a moment. He really loved the hike up
the canyon that day.
Leidys and I enjoyed our day trip with our new friends.
Benny and Avi (RIP) atop a large rock in the canyon - the shadows behind us looming larger.

Back at the horses, time to find Hwy 3
One last photo...
We were able to travel upwards of 50 mph, but in the process, we left our friends behind. We had to slow down and drive patiently.
Our friends far behind but catching up.
Our canyon is now a small dot behind us.
At Hwy 3, I noticed something awry with the way my Jeep handled. The hardware had rattled off from all of the washboard I had encountered, causing
this slight predicament.
Problem solved - we said, "Goodbye" to our new friends while we hit the road for Ensenada.
