US commandos boost numbers to train Mexican forces

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Pentagon is stepping up aid for Mexico's bloody drug war with a new U.S.-based special operations headquarters to teach Mexican security forces how to hunt drug cartels the same way special operations teams hunt al-Qaida, according to documents and interviews with multiple U.S. officials.

Yeah....new weapons anyway.

I thought the new Pres said he wouldn't be carrying on with this war. Are we just arming, training and outfitting Mexico's military because we don't have anything else to do or spend our money on?

Just an offer

Mexico's Foreign Affairs Department emailed a statement saying it had been briefed on the changes, and had no further comment

It appears to be business as usual, with respect to countering the cartels, for the new president. He's just trying to reduce the military's involvement in it, probably for political reasons.

Instead, he proposing a new national paramilitary force.
