Whale Sharks in La Paz in Feb?
I'm making a trip from Los Angeles down through Baja in February - have been finding very conflicting reports about the season for whale sharks off La
Paz. Have emailed a few tour operators to no avail.
Some sites/blogs say its just Oct/Nov, others say til Spring.
Will be seeing the ballenas grises on the way down, so the trip will be glorious either way - but sure would like to make it down to La Paz if whale
sharks are still to be found.
Would appreciate any info, thanks!
cheers

Whale sharks
Biggest fish known..Its a crap shoot in regards to these awesome swimming units...I use to run out of La Paz... running tourest out to the channel and
el esprito and some times up to Isla san jose... But I'm no expert by,, any means on whale sharks..And due to there natrual and colder waters (now)
who knows...The Only way I know that you could get a unbiased report would get to La Paz and ask on the morning net (22A) 8:00 AM and walk the malicon
and ask around to the panga guys..ask for pics on his cell phone if he says he knows where some might be....the whales are a sure bet this time of
year..whale sharks,, no just a ludk of the draw..Have fun,safe,trip...K&T

Many thanks! I figure it's a good excuse to get all the way down to La Paz for the 1st time... Furthest south I've been in Bahia Concepcion - looking
forward to the adventure.

La PAZ
Hola,, I'm not a city folk by any means..But, La Paz is GREAT !! do you have a VHF radio..mounted or hand held will open the world for you down there
!! sorta like getting the "key" to the city..If your going to be going to baja much I Would Highly recommend getTing at least a hand held and would
not buy any brand except Kenwood,,standard,,Icom...Better than having a cell for info and Almost all gringos in la Paz moniter 22A..K&T

Great tip, gracias! I never even turn on my cell across the border, thereby leaving me thoroughly deprived of information. I had no idea there was an
active frequency...that people actually use.

Both are correct sometimes in Oct/Nov and sometimes in Feb/March. They like certain krill blooms.
I haven't heard that they are there now, but either wait for a report of daily sightings and then go or just go and look-usually they are spotted and
it's well known when they arrive.
Last two years they were in La Paz in Feb very close to the malecon. It is impossible to predict.

I'll 2nd what gnukid said
On the radio gig..we in the early 80's around the east cape & cabo it was the "phone" order pizza,,call police..talk with you doc...today its
still used by boaters,fishermen,,yachts.. and mounted on almost any coastal house.....if someone lives on the coast and dosnt have one,,they should,,
in my humble,,small,mind...but, it needs to be installed by someone that really knows what the hell they are doing...I would say 80 percnt or more
rado installs I see are not up to snuff.....K&T

Stop by Burro and Coyote on Conception and ask if the whale sharks are in.
Usually some there and close to shore.

Thanks all for the tips! Will most likely make it down to La Paz regardless just to see it, and maybe get lucky with the whale sharks.
Would love to hear of any "must see's and do's" for La Paz or Loreto, as we've never been that far south.
cheers
