TJ - A trip back in time.

My dentist grew up and still lives in TJ. These are his pics. Pretty cool. Love the one that says Tia Juana !!

I want to change this post to HISTORIC PHOTOS ... where and how ?

I would imagine most people there called it that once upon a time....Tijuana being a contraction of those words. :?::light:

Overheard a lady in the store the other day talking about "Tia Juana "....my daughter said, "Why'd she call it that?" Had to explain to my little half-breed that that's what lots of gringos call it....guess she doesn't hear that pronounciation much growing up in Chula Vista...

Nice pictures, Blanca....

It was actually originally "Tia Juana", as was the river's name (Aunt Jane)... Mexicans shortened it to a single word...

They altered the town name COLNETT to COLONET as well... We mess with names too: La Jolla (for La Joya), Via de la Valle (it's El Valle, so Via del Valle)...

If you're referring to the forum "Historic Interests & Literature" - I've moved it there.

If you're referring to the title of the thread, you only need to edit your original post to the thread - and edit the title of that post.

Actually "Mission Viejo" could be technically correct, as it's probably a shortening of the Mexican Land Grant: "Rancho Mission Viejo"

Tijuana came from the original Tapai Indian word for the river - Ti Wan.
