Mulege - Accomodations & stuff to do

OK, So I have Gonzaga more or less nailed down, already a good recent thread on BOLA places to stay, Cowboy in GN is reserved, now I need some thoughts on Mulege area - what places to stay and anything special we should do there?

I'll offer 2 "musts" in Mulege; (1) stay with Cliff Taylor at Clementine's; he has several houses for rent along the river, all spotlessly clean and well priced (www.clementinesbaja.com) (2) enjoy the beaches along the Bahia de Concepcion about 15 minutes south of Mulege; there are lots to chose from starting with Playa Santispac and ending with Playa Armenta. I'm sure you'll get lots of other people posting on this so I'll limit my advice to these 2 items.

Does the Serinidad still have their Saturday night pig roast? If so, I wouldn't miss that!

Saturday events..eat carnitas by Antonio at noon downtown..easy find, ask for directions from anyone. Always crowded on Saturdays, but great meeting place for old and new friends....and 'assorted characters'..

Serinadad pork feed Sat night..don't miss that.

Rent panga, go fishing or diving with a local guide. (weather permitting...no wind!)

Prison museum up on the hill

drive north riverfront road to lighthouse and funky riverfront and oceanfront cantinas

a walk around downtown Mulege shops and/or sit in the square, have a fish or shrimp taco nearby

take a tour south to Bahia de Concepcion, drive all over the place, see some beautiful beaches, have a picnic, or lunch at one of many bayside cafes.

...and lots of other fun things. Expore!

There are many motels and hotels to inspect at your leisure. Your choice there.

Relax and enjoy!

Check out Punta Chivato. 30 min. North of Mulege with hotels, camping, a restaurant and houses to rent as well.
One of the best beaches in Baja!

Pompano (and DK!) thanks so much for the pictures! They do tell a story. I'll buy you a beer or 3 if I see you there :) Sounds like there will be some fun things to do there and some good eats as well! I'll have to find the taco place and Serenidad but sounds like that won't be a problem either :)

Clementines sounds and looks absolutely wonderful but its a bit more than I want to spend for a couple nights. Any other recommended places to stay?

hotels in Mulege

Hi Jaybo - here is a link to a former thread with lots of suggestions. However, maybe you should write to Cliff at Clementine's and see if he won't give you a better deal ...sure worth a try since his place is located perfectly for walking down the river and walking to and fro from the local restaurant/bar that all the locals go to !

http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=62166#pid7520...

You will notice that one of the places mentioned- mi casita - is quite resonable at 350 pesos a night. I have never stayed there but my sister did and said it was a pretty location on the cliffs.

If you want a bit of luxury, at a fair price for a 2 bedroom casita, includes breakfast, and it has a swimming pool and is on Bahia Concepcion, then go to Bob & Susan's Lighthouse Resort at Playa Frambes, Km. 118: http://www.mulege.org

Camping and sleeping on the beach is the way to go, at least for me. Listening to the waves on the shore is heavenly.

For our first trip driving down we will do the hotel thing. The wife and I both like a comfortable bed but maybe the next trip we will consider camping at least part of the time.

DK - Yeah I considered Bob and Susan's place but it is really out of our budget (that we are already probably over!) but their place does look awesome!

I understand... it is great if you travel with another couple and that makes the casita with breakfast under $36/ per person... You can't find a more comfortable pair of beds (south of El Rosario's Baja Cactus) for that rate!

Hope you have a great time... and don't expect to see it all... I haven't seen it all after 48 years going there! It is so beautiful and interesting I never tire of it... Viva Baja!

Back onliine now.

Hey Tony,

That character is your Mulege twin. Knickname is/was 'Fingers'. He was a real treat, except when he got upwind of you.

Hey to you, too, Blanca,

That's what's beautiful about the time I spend in Baja/Mulege...there's absolutely nothing I have to do.

we had a fun stay at La Hacienda who had a special on rooms for 200 pesos..right downtown and a real baja classic with good WIFI...the room was clean and the beds were fantastic...the little coffee shop across the street is sweet too with excellent drinks, waffles and even sushi!...we liked the room so much we stayed an extra night...cant beat the price and the courtyard is lovely.
