Soriano's in Loreto?

according to today's SudCalifornia Soriano's will break ground soon for a store in the town center on Benita Juarez, 'behind the mission.' anyone have any info on what's going on/when/if this will happen/etc. also if they will have to comply with the regulations for our "magic city." whatever those might be...

reality\'s never been of much use out here...

I heard this last week. Don't know if it's true. The location seems unreasonable, right in the middle of town in high priced real estate. We'll see.

Nice big property with place for parking.
Great location for the whole town.

Would prefer a Ley's, since Soriana's is on the high end of the grocery chains.

Just drove by the old Mango orchard behind the mission. They are cutting it down! :( I asked a policeman at the next corner and he said, the Soriana will open at the end of the year.
Why didn't they opt for the outside of Loreto???? They could catch the bytraveling cars and the shoppers wouldn't clog up the downtown area. And they could have expanded if they would have needed in a few years.

It is so sad about the mission garten. Remember the old man selling vegies out of there. He would walk with you into the rows under the trees and you could choose the onions, the carrots or chards....
So now a parking lot..... some would call it progress!?!:O

I'm with you, Jeff!
Soriano is high end, good for Loreto.

That property has gone begging for a long time. I loved the old fellow who farmed that spot, he was quite a character. I bought lots of flowers from him back in the day.:saint:

Great news that Soriano is coming to town.. Very political chess game going on in this town..

Bad location for a supermarket/ parking lot backed up to a historical mission in a "Pueblo Magico"...

Soriana - is the correct spelling.

Comments:
Location: that's a crying shame to put it behind the Mission downtown. What were they thinking????

But at least it's something new and good.

This is a giant step forward for Loreto ......and a not so good location for the new store. But what the heck it's Mexico, it will work out.

That old mission has held sway in that neighborhood for over 300 years. It's time to move over for a new kid on the block.
Come on, Soriana!
Now, if they planned to further screw up access to the launch ramp, that would be another matter.....

Reminds me of

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a Sorianas and a swinging hot spot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

They took all the trees and put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged all the people a dollar and a half just to see 'em

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot........

Great video, SFand H. Brings back great memories.

There is plenty of other land near by that woud be easily accessible to everyone. They didn't pick an optimum location, all things considered.

Anyway, maybe it will increase the market value of my lots in Loreto...doubt it, though. I'm getting ready to fire sale them anyway.

On the other side when I needed a gringo item the manager seemed to always come up with it. Loreto will end up with a vastly increased selection of fruits and vegetables. I've been trying to find Salsa La Viuda for a year with no luck. Soriana will have stuff like Lala butter in the tub which is European butter imported from Uruguay. "Queso de Cotagge" which is fine cottage cheese, fresh block Parmesan cheese, cheddar, and hard as nails, juicy Washington apples.

IMHO the Soriana costs more, but I always give my first choice to local markets, and after finding out they cannot get what I need, then it's on to Soriana. The store may or may not have those little interior shops like mainland Sorianas. Some also have a "Luxury Kiosk" housing Swiss Army knives, expensive sunglasses and other gawker merchandise.

Not enough room for a large store with all these items David. Likely more like the Ley's store in Constitucion or not even that big. Property not big enough for a large store and sufficient parking.

Like I said "it's a political chess game"..

NAH SORIANA SUSPENDS WORK ... MAGIC VILLAGE COMMITTEE SUPPORTS LOCAL MERCHANTS.

027 February, Loreto 2013by Newswww.loretonoticias.com.mx (photo sent by Linda Ramirez).

LORETO BCS-The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) ordered to suspend the construction of the Soriana supermarket on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Under pressure from local merchants through Magical Towns committee and supported by some activists as Linda Ramirez (who was the developer of casinos not), that federal authority decided to ignore the disagreements sustained on the property is located within the historic center and the idea that the construction would damage the image of the area.

The main argument is that Linda Ramirez can not be removed from that site mango trees that belong to the stage ensures mission.

Onsite Magic Towns Committee is chaired by Gilberto Amador Davis, who is a partner and manager of Super Mercado El Pescador, considered one of the businesses that would be most affected by the entry of the chain.

Also the vast majority of society favors Loreto entry Soriana, as the opportunity to end the abuses of local merchants for high prices, low quality and variety of items.

Interesting translation of local land use battle. Must be computer generated.
