Experience with Mexico City airport?

I'm planning our trip from La Paz to Guatemala. All flights pass through Mexico City and I have minimal experience with that airport.

One flight option has a 1 hour layover in Mexico City where we would have to change airlines from Aeromexico to Copa Air.
If you have experience with Mexico City airport, does 1 hour seem like enough of a cushion in case of late arrival, baggage transfer to other airline, walking to next terminal etc?

Yes, one hour is enough time...if you are not to late on arrival. Will be going there soon too!

Hire a portero to haul your luggage. The reconstruction of the airport is almost complete so it's a lot easier to navigate. Your airline is responsible for letting you know how far away a transfer flight departure lounge is from your arrival lounge.

For years the Casas de Cambios in Mexico City aeorpuerto were famous for offering the best exchange rate for the US and Canadian dollar in the entire country.

Copa and Aero Mexico are both in terminal 2. You won't have any problem as long as your La Paz flight's on time. Copa and Areo Mexico are both star alliance carriers so you can accumulate miles on United Mileage Plus.
