Tijuana and Mexicali kick off the National Violence Prevention program

57 cities will be the first to implement new strategy

"The Mexican Federal Government announced 57 cities that will be the first to implement a new strategy in the first stage of the "National Program for
the Social Prevention of Violence and Crime", which Tijuana and Mexicali are included in this list.
Other municipalities and delegations that are included in this initial list are La Paz, Culiacan, Ahome in Hermosillo, Ciudad Juarez, Nuevo Laredo and
Ciudad Victoria just to name a few.
The Undersecretary of Prevention and Citizen Participation of the Interior Ministry, Roberto Campa Cifrian, said that these regions will benefit from
a support of 11.5 billion dollars to prevent crime and reduce the levels of violence.
40% of crimes committed in Mexico are all committed within these 57 locations.
The plan of this program is for each region in the country to have their own strategy, which in the next phase, the expansion to 100 more regions is
what is being planned for, and ultimately leading to 251 municipalities more being added in the third phase.
The Interior Ministry, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Education, Ministry of
Communication and Transport, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, the Ministry for Agricultural Development and Urban Planning,
are all the agencies that make up the committee for this program.

In recent days, Tijuana has seen many crimes like the murder of a few policemen and citizens in broad daylight. For many, it was thought that perhaps
the city was now taking a few steps backwards, to a time where the lives of innocent people were taken and that also disrupted an economic peace
The authorities in the region are working hard on a daily basis to maintain the achievements that have been obtained, and to continue to move forward
in the matter. During 2012, Tijuana had 364 homicides, a figure lower than that of 2011, which authorities are expecting for it to continue to decline
by the end this present year."
