Baja Almanac Map Book

Gonna be poking around for three weeks in April, 4WD Tacoma w/FourWheel camper. I have the Baja California Almanac map book for 2009. Was going to buy the updated one, but the Almanac's website isn't taking orders. Is the updated version worth it? I can probably pick it up from another website. - John K

I believe the 2009 version is the newest. You're good with what you got.

2009 is the newest, fresh copies were sent to BajaBooksAndMaps.com and the word from Baja Judy there, is the new shipment is unchanged.

Google Earth is the best way to scope out a remote area for roads... just make copies of the areas you want to explore... and please post a trip report when you get back!

Thank you!!

Thanks people. And I will post a trip report. A couple of clueless 60-somethings from Norway & SoCal. Should be interesting.

try the online maps from INEGI
http://gaia.inegi.org.mx/mdm5/viewer.html

INEGI has many more geographic names than Google. and INEGI has different geographic names than the almanac (INEGI is maybe more authoritative?? or perhaps has authority of DF!)

Thanks for that link goat, I am only seeing a terrain map, and no roads or trails. I have clicked on the appropriate boxes, but no luck yet?

Inegi Map

Here is Gonzaga Bay area... haven't figured out how to add any more data (roads, arroyos, etc.):

Shell Island/ Bahia Santa Maria area:

There was once a campo across the lagoon from the island called 'Isla San Martin', about a mile south of Percebu. It will always be Isla de las Conchas to me ;)

Thanks folks! Was wondering why Google didn't have hardly any place names. I'll be bringing an IPAD (and IPhone), data turned off. I'll pre-load whatever maps I can find, satellite imagery too, to use with the GPS. And thank you David K. What a resource you are. I've scoured this website and saved a ton of your maps as jpgs. Try to minimize the uff-da factor. Gleder meg til turen nedover, takk for alle de gode opplysningene! - John K

Well, using those INEGI maps would certainly make travel into the "outback" of Baja more interesting and challenging.

There most certainly is but one side to every story: the TRUTH. Variations of it are nothing but lies.

Those INEGI maps are nice. Too bad they don't list roads.
