Thanks for posting this, the first 1000 race... Jimmy Smith's name was mentioned a couple times. Scenes at the end of pavement (north of Colonet then), Santa Ynez, El Arco, La Purisima and La Paz make this a fun to watch flick. There were record runs down the peninsula in the 60's, but NORRA created the first organized run with multiple cars and motorcycles in various classes. Near the end, listen as the narrator says, "someday when a broad, modern highway runs the length of Baja California..." That came just six years later, but using alternate routes than the main road south, the Baja 1000 and Mexican 1000 lives on.
