Would you smile if your government assigned you to man a road block thousands of miles from your home, in a desert, living in a tent, and knowing drugistas may shoot you?

I wondered about the expression. My conclusion is that the image was done with the knowledge of the chain of command. If not, it may have received tacit approval because it is part of the training to teach the young men to maintain a solemn demeanor. A group of 'grabassing' soldados, as I recently experienced, certainly reduced the tension, but that isn't the point, is it? I judge they'd like to get the people they're looking for to profile early. It might also be done in sympathy with southbound truckers they are required to stop.

We watched a changing of the guard while waiting in line at the reten north of Loreto. The squads stood in facing files as they ejected the chambered round, and passed the mag to the next man. Who loaded and locked. Good military order!

That said, I have a 55 qt. cooler mounted where feet would go if the layout in my camper still included a dinette. Not once in the last 40 days in Baja has anyone ever looked in that box. Including US secondary.:?:
