Bahia Concepcion?

Hotelling it in Loreto, waiting for the wind to die down. Thought we'd do a day or three of beach camping at Bahia Concepcion on the way north. Have the camper with me. Santispac? Coyote? Others? Any input would be welcome.

Just drive the road and pick one, they are all nice. Santispac is always clean and one of our favorites, Burro, Coyote, La Perla, El Requeson....all nice.

...and keep in mind that Bahia Concepcion often gets MORE windy than Loreto or Mulege, due to the funnel effect.

I've been told by one traveler in February that the very first camp South of Mulege (after Naranja?) was closed by the authorities due to anti-sanitary conditions - sewer, garbage etc, and violation of zoning regulations - those 3-storeyed shacks, you know.

Thanks. From the balcony here it looks like bent palm trees, white caps and birds flapping their way north at 2 mph.

Apparently different Neighbors traveled there at different times :) ... Another account from the Step Neighbor In-law and his pals traveling through the area on their bicycles, July 2012. Shacks were evicted from Santispac, and migrated to El Burro. El Coyote was closed and/or abandoned, at the time when this particular Step Neighbors were visiting.

John, if it's white caps in Loreto, it can't be much worse in Concepcion. Though probably will not be totally calm. I would say - go for it. Or wait it out. Heavy North winds in Baja normally last 3-5 days. There is of course always a chance of 12 knots "breeze" picking up at 11 am and then dying out by 3 or 4 pm.

Edit - PS: if it's not a typo, and white caps are rushing North (not South), and the wind speed is mere 2 mph, this sounds like a short-lasting Southern breeze. Not a long-lasting El Norte. Though after we've screwed up this planet climate, usual wind patterns in Baja have deteriorated.

Have seen it many times, one weather to the North of Punta Chivato, and another one to the South. Different wind direction too.

What friends - those that said the beach was abandoned, or those that said that shacks were removed? :)

No, I don't think those cyclists smoked anything. Their other information checks. Closed - don't know. "Dilapidated, scabby, grotty" - well, this is how those structures of permanent residents normally look, don't it...

SANTISPAC 2012

What Santispac looked like one year ago, April 22, 2012.

(I can give you pics of every year since 1973, but that's a big job and I'm pooped.)

Just back from dinner. El Papagayo. The wind out of the north has really died down the last 2 hours. So we'll head up tomorrow. Santispac maybe. There's food there, right? Thanks for the picture, Pompano!

A whole bunch of folks from here in Punta Banda cut their month of camping at Santispac short and are heading home. Nope, it wasn't because of the wind. It was because they were being eating alive by the pesky no-see-ums.

Hate those guys. I do have a supply of Cutters. If it's really bad we'll head up to Serenidad. Or maybe west to Juan's and Shari's.

John, my favorite beach on Concepcion has been El Requeson where you have two waterfronts. When it was full we went just south to La Perla. Last July it was great for us.

Thanks, David. I'll save the name for next time. We ended up at Santispac but only spent one night. A little too rambunctious.

Bahia Concepcion

Playa El Requeson, July, 2007:

My folks and I camped on this very sand spit in 1966... it still connects to El Requeson Island at low tide... no obvious sea level change since 1966!;):light:
