Those in the know from the ranch said Ray died of natural causes, apparent heart attack.

Restaurateur dies of hunger? Ah, the irony..........

Is this the same guy that opened an RV park out the old ice house road? The same guy that used to be on the beach at Santispac, I think?

Mike, did you receive and email from Rick Barber regarding Ray. It seems that Rick got the confirmation that Ray ran off the road and the police said he had apparently been dead for a couple of days before his vehicle was spotted. They said all his personal belongings were intact and there was no signs of foul play. They suspect that he had a heart attack while driving and ran his car off the highway. I think we all need to be mindful that none of us are perfect. Ray's was a wonderful host that made each meal you had at his establishment memorable. May he rest in peace and my condolences to his family. I will miss him......

Well, the article linked above said his body was not in his car. It was found yards away from his car after a foot search of the area and they did an autopsy and determined the cause of death was starvation and dehydration. It does say there was no sign of violence.

How sad. I first met Ray in his small ,shell floor, restaurant in Santispac. Trish and I were just discovering Baja. We were headed down to Pescadero to see my brother when we rounded the corner near Santispac and saw that beautiful water of Bahia Conception. We pulled the Airstream into Santispac to camp and see what was going on. We walked into Rays place wondering what is this and why is it here. Ray greeted us at the door, made us feel very comfortable, and showed us the menu. It was written on a chalkboard. Four options, all fresh, all from the sea. We ended up staying for 4 days in order to try each menu item. Rays became our favorite restaurant in Baja. We would plan on trips south and north to visit Mulege on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday. When he was open. RIP Ray, you will be missed.

Very sad, and I hope it was not a criminal act. Everyone hear sure raved about his restaurant. We never got to try it, as it was closed in the summer. Vaya Con Dios, Ray!

It does sound like the way the described Chopy's death (ESL, el surfo loco) near San Jose del Cabo... ten years ago?
