2013 Baja 500 Thread

Less than a month to the race...
Who is going?
Who is racing?
The official map is due out on May 14, but the word is they will be running in the opposite direction of last year, ie. south from Ensenada/ Ojos Negros for the first leg.

Here is the 2012 course, thanks to TW for posting (and was about the same route as 2011):

When the 2013 Map is posted, I will place it here...

May 15th edit...
2013 Baja 500 Map:

New section to Mike's Sky Rancho, El Coyote, along the Rio San Rafael to near Colonet, then south to near Camalu!

I've heard they will go thru the pine forest but not over the summit.

I'll be down there somewhere pitting the THR Kawasaki bike. Last year they won, so I'm hoping for a repeat.

The BFG pit letter on the SCORE site indicates the race will go over the summit. Their pits are as follows.

El Alamo race Mile 89.
San Matias hwy3 @ KM137 RM 230.
Colonet Access from hwy 1 @ KM126 RM366.
Finish RM510.

Rumor is it will go thru Mikes Sky Ranch. Whether it will turn for Simpsons Ranch or go out thru El Coyote I don't know.

Right, looks like it will run similar to last year with some new stuff added. It may take Norman and his people more time to work out new sections with the land owners.

Looks to be a good run with a full 500 miles, new run through Mike's Sky and El Coyote Ranchos then along the river to Colonet, and south to Camalu before the coast run north, as before...

It's great to see some new sections. Jose G, race director, really knows his way around down there and is a multi-time class champ in the RECORD series out of Ensenada.

Kudos to SCORE for putting in a "Sportsman Shortcut" for Sportsman Bikes to help keep them from mixing in with the Trophy Trucks.

Where is the Sportsman Shortcut? Santa Catarina to San Matias, perhaps?

Near Nuevo Junction to Valle de Trinidad via the Goat Trail, highway to Mike's turnoff, rejoin the course there.

It's possible with some luck. Last year in the 500 the first pro MC finished in 9hrs 12min rounded off. First Sportsman MC did it in 12hrs 7 min. With pros running another 100 miles over the summit it could be close. Go 249X.
