Flight school

Pretty early in flight school, I think, this juvenile Yellow-crowned night heron looks kinda worried on final approach. Landing is the tricky part, after all. The adult on the desired perch may be shouting advice or discouragement. In the end the adult just got out of the kid’s way, and the kid landed just fine and seems to like the perch.

Scaaaarrrrryyyyyyy!!

Flaps, kid! More flaps!

Full flaps.

Brings it in for a perfect touchdown.

Pretty smug after the perch takeover.

Really nice. Thanks for the post.

That youngster may have hatched in one of your date palms, Jeff. Those pictures were taken right in front of your house yesterday late afternoon.
