Baja 500 Check Points Close Early for Bikes


Cars and Trucks have 22 hours to finish, but the bikes including pro have 16 hours and 45 minutes. Pro bikes need to average 30mph and Sportsman 23.7mph. Cars and trucks 22.8mph.

I think this makes it pretty tough on the older riders in class 60 and probably class 50 especially since they will be doing the full 501 miles.

Maybe not. I looked at last years average speeds for class 50 and 60 and only one team in class 50 was below 30mph. Those old guys can really GO. Tunaeaters team had 55 minutes in penalties and finished 3rd at 32.8mph. Had they not gotten the speed penalties they would have won the class.
