ATM's
Leaving for Loreto soon - it's been awhile - a real long awhile - anyway here's a newbie question - How much cash can I get out of an ATM with my US
ATM card? If my US limit is $500, can I take out 5,500 pesos (approx.) in one transaction? How many withdrawals do I get per day? A set amount, or
until I reach my max? In the "old days" you had to play "trick the ATM machines" to get what you needed. I'm in town for only a day and then it's into
the hills for some scouting.

No tricks needed. When in Loreto I use the ATM at the bank next to the big gas station going into town. The bank on the main square charges around
$7 for a w/d and the bank on the main street is around $3.
I can take out to my limit which my banks sets and just times that by 11 and you will be safe in w/d that many pesos every day. IE: If you have a $500
limit, you can w/d 5,500 pesos daily.
Be sure to call the bank that has issued your ATM card and tell them that you will be in Mexico and not to block the account because of unusual
activity. Also, my bank will allow my limit to be raised when I am in Mexico.
The Yellowtail are going off the hook and the Dorado are just the other side of Carmen.

I've extracted 7,000 in one shot. Some young, vibrant NOMADS, could if they wish to start a separate thread hopefully to turn into a sticky outlining
where various bank ATM's are located. Cities of course will have an overwhelming number, but how about Constitucion, or Insurgentes, Colonia Guerrero,
Loreto, Mulege, Maneadero Sta Rosalia? There are lots of little bank booths dotted here and there. It'd be nice to be able to download a list.

be sure to use the bank he mentions. the other bank on the plaza charges a much higher fee for its ATM
there are also ATMs at the Santa Fe hotel, near the Pescador market, at the Loreto Bay hotel, and at Puerto Escondido (Pedro's)
you can get whatever your limit is, just calculate based on exchange rate and punch in under 'other amount' rounding up, or down, to 100

These days, you have to pay close attention to the fee that is put up on the screen during your transaction. These, according to the bank which owns
that machine, will vary widely.
BANCOMER and BANORTE charge for your transaction, 70 Pesos [this is in addition to any fees your bank charges, and regardless of the amount of the
transaction] when it seems others are charging mas o menos 25 Pesos. It's probably only a matter of time before all the local banks will be doing
the same, but up to today, there's still the difference.

Use Bank ATM Cajero Automaticos only! Any problems and you can go into the bank to talk with someone. Some run out of $ money on paydays or Holidays
in smaller towns. Bank of America has free w/d with Santander. Bancomer and Wells Fargo, I believe. Bank ATMs in GN, Vizcaino, Mulege, & Loreto

I just got 6,000 and the
US cost was $491 including the ATM charge from a HSBC ATM.

I think the guy who cleans the car windows at Pescador can probably exchange $  Just kidding Sr. Sculpin.
I think he makes pretty good money and should have lots of pesos. He actually is a nice guy once you get to know him.

We live out of the ATM down here near San Jose del and I have found that I can usually take up to 12,000 pesos per day from my USA account. I have to
take it in successive 4,000 peso withdrawals because that is some kind of limit for me with Banamex ATMs.
We bank in the states with Citibank, so no fees since they are affiliated.
No b-tchin\' in the Baja.

Must be your local branch of Banamex that has that limit.
In the Loreto branch, I can get 10000 pesos in one fell swoop using a USA bank ATM card.
However with the Banamex card, I am limited to 6000p at a time.
Weird that your not charged a "international ATM fee" when using your Citibank USA card.
I talked to Citibank on the phone and they said although they do have a "relationship" with Banamex, there is still that international ATM fee
charged.
Recently I was traveling to other locations internationally and even though the bank was named Citibank, there was a 7% international ATM fee charged
to me.
After some complaining that how could this be.......even after the nice lady in that bank told me...."no fees sir, as we ARE Citibank"..... they
refunded this fee to me.
They (Citibank USA) went on to say, any further card use by me in an international ATM machine would be charged the 7% fee.
But on the plus side.....I can transfer funds from the USA Citibank to Banamex .......fee free. And then just use the Banamex card for cash, of course
no fees doing that.
