car storage in CV?

Would like to know if anyone knows if there is a place to store a car monthly in Chula Vista? And if so, how much does that run? Maybe an RV storage place? Another question...can you catch a bus to go into Mexico from the U.S. side? I know the bus goes down to Baja Sur, but where is the closet location to the border to catch it? Thanks!

I do recommend Sav-On. I've had a unit there for years and their vehicle storage is secure.
They are expensive, but convenient.

Well, my sister has a house in point loma, and might be interested. I will U2U her info. From point loma you take a cab downtown to the bus station (maybe $20). It will take you to the border. It is about a 40 min ride by bus. You can do the trolley but it takes 2 hours. Greyhound has partnered up with Mexico to take folks to the border.

To get the bus in TJ, there is a small station/ bus stop quite close to the border. It is in walking distance. I do it so automatically but I seem to remember that one crosses the street once over the pedestrian overpass. Then pass all the cabs towards the left of the buildings. Go past a small but good bakery. The bus stop is just a bit further on.

Can't recommend a storage, but the farther East, the cheaper they are.

Bus: there is only one bus that goes to Baja Sur, and it's called ABC. There is also Aguilla, I can't tell the difference, either some merger in process or name change, God knows. There is only one place and only one schedule, anyway. The place is called Tijuana Central, this is in Otay district of Tijuana. The schedule, mas/menos, 12.00 (noon), 4.00pm, 6.00, 8.00.

You CAN'T catch this bus at the border or anywhere North of the border. It goes from Tijuana, period.

Now, if you need some way to get to the border crossing San Ysidro or to TJ Central, this is a different matter. There is a cab, a tram, and - my favorite - Greyhound bus, aka Cruceros. The beauty of Greyhound is that it goes straight to TJ Central, not some seedy tourist trap area of TJ downtown. You can catch Greyhound either in San Diego downtown terminal, or at SY bus terminal on the US side (the cost is the same $10). Good luck.

PS: tram is called a "trolley" in this neck of woods, and it's a "blue line" of trolley to San Ysidro. But the trolley is actually red. It goes pretty fast, I think 10-15 minutes from E-street in Chula Vista to SY. Definitely not 2 hours.

Airport???

We have had friends park their car at the SD airport long term lot on PCH for a week, no problems. Don't know what the cost is per day.

Take a shuttle (free) from the lot to the terminal, then catch a ride (bus/cab) to downtown Trolly station

PARKING

In the past I have left my Daughters car at the lot on the right at the duty free turn off they used to have hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly rates there. I didn't want her driving down here by herself so I would drive up there and pick her up.

I'm leaving my Yukon there for 2 months while we drive a rental car to Canada. Total price: $150. That's only $2.50 day and I don't think that is pricey.

PS: they are at 3712 Main st, just 3 blocks off the 805.

Like Alm mentioned....I have taken the Greyhound from the downtown bus station in San Diego...super easy and then just get on the southbound baja bus at the main terminal...it's an interesting place to wait...sort of like a mall but I think buses only run in the early morning and late afternoon, early evening so time the greyhound accordingly to avoid a long wait in the TJ terminal.

I don't suggest this unless you know your way around, but ABC does come and go from the border to Ensenada where arrangements can be made to go south.

No, Shari, there is no ABC bus from TJ Central in early morning. This big "mall" is a hub for a dozen bus companies, but only ABC goes to Baja Sur and the earliest one is at noon. Or used to be.

Dennis: yes, there is a bus from a - relatively small - bus depot at SY border on the Mex side, but it only goes as far as Ensenada. The question was about "Baja Sur". Making a switch in Ensenada... Possible, but you have to catch the same 4 or 5 daily ABC buses that leave from TJ Central, so those local - more frequent - buses from SY to Ensenada won't make it easier. Or maybe they will - since Greyhound is REALLY infrequent these days, sometimes 2 hours between the buses. It just looks simpler to get in the long-distance ABC bus to Baja Sur at the main terminal.

2 hours by blue line from SD downtown to SY? This has not been my experience. 30-40 minutes from end to end of the blue line, America Plaza to SY. About 15 minutes from Chula Vista to SY. Unless things have really changed.

Well, to be honest, i only did the trolley from SY to old town once. It took 2 hours when the drive is thirty minutes. Once was enough to not make me want to try again!

That can be a two hour trip, especially on a crowded weekend. The trolley has to spend more time at each stop, and there's lots of stops.
