New Tires on Tacoma: Dakota ATs

Well, last Sunday the patch I got at Gonzaga Bay (July, 2012) placed over the hole in an earlier patch ( I got in Mexicali, Jan. 2012) in my tire, gave out! I drove into my garage after picking something up at Lowes, and heard the air streaming out of my front right tire.

I had Hankook Dynapro ATMs and while I don't think I would have them more than 35,000 miles, it wasn't the best time for this failure! LOL (31,600 miles on them)

So, on a late Sunday afternoon... the only tire shop still open was Pep Boys, and they only had one of the brands available that afternoon, in my size (265/75-16)... The Destiny Dakota AT, made by Cooper Tires. I ran them before on my 2001 Tacoma. They are quiet on the highway and worked well on Shell Island. Buy 4 get 1 free, was also nice.

I had my BFG AT's rotated a couple of days ago on my Nissan X-Terra------27,400 miles on them, and they still had 7/32 inches of tread on the fronts, 6/32 on the rears----I think they started out with 11/32.

Those are nice looking tires, David, and now you have a 2nd "new" spare it would appear!?!?!?!?

I have the original spare BFG Rugged Trail. Sunday was the only day it has been used since I got the truck.

Oh, not a mic but it looked like 1/2" deep tread using a tape.

Yup. Pep Boys has that deal on several tires. Knocks about $150 off.

So, you ended up with FIVE new tires?

No Bob, but I see the way you are thinking.. if you buy 4 tires, you get a rebate for the cost of one. You pay for all 4, and they mail you the rebate. I wish I could buy just 3 and get the 4th free, without waiting!:light::yes:

Cleaned the truck, and here is a better view of the tread face.

Of course. One had an irreparable hole and all 4 were near the point I wouldn't want to drive on them. I think the tread design was fantastic but the wear rate average.
