Best deal for car Insurance

My suv is a 2002 well used. What amount of insurance would you suggest and who's the best Insurer. What coverage would be the best without paying through the nose. This would be an annual policy. Thanks for any help you can give me as I have been over paying.

At least one of the noted San Diego Brokers suggests,
due to the recent Mex Govt raising of the negligent death payout
in a traffic accident, to get $500,000 in libility. This
MAY be overkill as it is yet to shake out. Up to
last Jan., $50,000 was considered adequate. To me
the US Broker is FAR less important than the Mex Ins Co.
they sell policies for. I'm so hinky about driving in Mex
to begin with, I would buy only from 2 Mex Co's, HDI
and Ace, there is a 90 day policy floating around,
90 days in Mex, consecutive or not

Bajabound

Look at the top of this page.

Get your insurance through Bajabound.

I purchased HDI Full coverage and had to use them in December. Great customer service. Geoff at Bajabound was outstanding with followup and the people at HDI bent over backwards to ensure that I was satisfied.

I just renewed with them.

One other thing.....when you call Bajabound, you can talk directly to Geoff!!!!!

I've had good luck with Ace (Mexican insurance company) who treated my brother right when his truck got totaled.
I went through Bajabound this year instead of Discover Baja Travel club:
same insurance co, but a little cheaper.
One year maximum liability policy with Platinum endorsement for $288.17.
Way better than the policy I carry in the US, and cheaper.

Since we go down to La Paz twice a year for our clinics, as well as spending several weeks a year in Bahia Asuncion, I always buy a yearly policy. We have been members of the Vagabundos del Mar for about 20 years, and have always bought our Mexican insurance policies through them. Although they may not have the cheapest rates, they do offer a "Diamond Program" at an added cost. This program provides for emergency evacuation services via airplane from Mexico back to a hospital in the US, and it's considerably cheaper than the other air evac services available.

In addition, the Vagabundos donate money to many worthy causes in Mexico, including our clinic in La Paz. Someone hit the side of my pickup truck in a parking lot in La Paz a couple of years back, and I had to file a report while in Mexico and get 3 bids from body shops in the US. They paid (less the deductible) in short order. I highly recommend the Vagabundos insurance program: http://www.vagabundos.com/mexinsur.htm

For me and my family, the best insurance company is the one that comes through in case of an accident. We have used Vagabundos for at least 20 years, use the Diamond Plan, and have been quite satisfied. We had one accident, uninsured driver, in La Paz. One phone call and the adjuster was there within a half hour. After a few beers (it IS Mexico), he took photographs, contacted the police, and talked to witnesses. The next morning he took me to the police station to get a copy of the report. When we returned to the US the vehicle was repaired by a local body shop, all paid by Vagabundos except the deductible.
We have used BajaBound and talked with Geoff many years ago, but carry our sailboat insurance through Vagabundos also so they carry the package.
