New SENTRI rules

I saw an announcement on GOES web page that the auto sticker portion of the program has been eliminated from the process.

Woo who. No more trips to the border to get new stickers.:bounce:

I have the site book marked for when I log in. Noticed when I went to the bookmarked site it was for Sept. 2012, refreshed the page and walah! July 10 2013. Thanks ,hope this works out, I have a vehicle in for review, the site still is still giving me a "pending" notice.

My guess is this may have something to do with the recent problem of drug smugglers using SENTRI-marked vehicles as unknowing mules, by attaching magnetized dope packages to the underside of the vehicles SOB and then tracking them down NOB. The smugglers will now need to get more sophisticated.

So I guess this means that we no longer have to have an approved vehicle to use SENTRI? As long as the occupants of the car each have a SENTRI card, you're free to use the lanes without using an approved car? I tried calling the SENTRI office to confirm but no luck getting through.

I just had my truck inspected July 9, he said he would approve it, but I guess I have to wait for something in the mail to show that it was approved. They knew at that time that they were no longer issuing stickers so I am guessing that you still have to have your vehicles inspected, there just won't be a sticker. Anyone heard anthing different?

I initially thought the same thing, but I think you will still have to have your car registered and inspected. I think they got rid of the Sentri Sticker not the registration

Crossing border today, I will try to get an accurate answer, we have been waiting to get a new sticker for our car for over two months, it stayed in pending mode forever. Ironically we just approved. Going through with a car that has sticker, but anxious to start using other car.

Called and talked to agent at Otay Mesa and was told this is just for replacement stickers. If registering a new vehicle, we still need to go through the process.

Anyone who's got their car registered down in Otay in the last year probably knows the big black guy who issues the stickers. Not sure what he checks for, but he sure takes A LONG TIME to get to your car. I was there with ONE other lady for about an hour as he walked back and fourth... After he came back with a Hamburger combo meal from the nearby Burger King I finally asked him what was going on.

He told me... "OH, I didn't know you were ready"....

Yeah... I was just waiting for an HOUR at my car with my hood and trunk open... but no, I wasn't ready...... yeahhhh....

Guy peeed me off more then once that is for sure.

Today when we crossed we asked the agent for clarification. She said that they ran out of decals which seems like an avoidable situation. But that the cars still must be registered and the cameras read the plates so the decals are redundant. So she assumes we do still have to go brought the safety inspections and all just wont get a decal. nice informative agent:)

Different Strokes

Inspecting Different Folks ?

Or, just a difference among the Inspectors ?

Waiting for our inspection at Calexico, the P.U. in front of us was inspected thoroughly inside the cab, under the hood and the undercarriage.

I assumed ours was going to take awhile.

The inspector came out with his clipboard, read the VIN through the windshield and said "OK, follow me back in".

Sort of like the wide variance we've seen over the years when crossing Northbound.

Nope, I called GOES to confirm the sticker deal and the cars will still have to be registered and inspected.

We have a person in San Felipe that is on the Calexico Sentri Committee and he said this was one of the reasons, and another was bad boys were breaking in to vehicles with Sentri stickers looking for documents to steal as they would assume there would be documents of value in vehicles with Sentri stickers.
