Oh, okay... When you have a route or map, please share! The first time it was a big 800+ mile loop was way way back when SCORE first ran the 1000 in 1975. I watched that race from Valle de Trinidad in the morning, then moved over to the sulfur mine to see the return north action... way late at night!

Parnelli Jones taking on fuel at Trinidad, in '75:

Edit... to add a photo from the 1973 Baja 1000 of Parnelli Jones in his 'Big Oly' Bronco (the first true trophy truck in off road racing)... This was the day before the race, and he had just returned from 'warming up his tires' (he said to me)...

This was the last 1000 for 'Big Oly'...

LOL... There is a BIG difference between a capable 4WD truck and an off road racer. I was in the Baja 1000 once... a special piece of my life, at 22:

CLASS 6, Datsun 510, Co-driver, 1979 Baja 1000. Photo from before the race, test driving the car with owner Skip Ylhainen of Escondido.

It's also rumored than when the cars/trucks catch a bike it is out of the race at the next check point.

Rumor #2 is that starting next year the race will run to La Paz or Cabo for the foreseeable future. Probably until entries drop off.

The new tracking device is the Spot Gen3 plus a GPS recorder similar to what was used in the HDRA race at Reno.

As to this years race rumor has it that it will be similar to the 2003 race, Dust to Glory, with a few miles added. Maybe an LA Bay run like in 1985.

Many Baja race maps are linked here: http://www.murdocknav.com/racingmaps.htm

1985 is not listed... but if I recall that year, we were at Puertecitos and the racers were northbound... Andy Felix had made some great chile at the Los Campeones pit and it was so windy, I ate as much gravel as beans in it!:spingrin:

I thought the 1985 race went thru LA Bay but I was wrong. The 85 race was very similar to the 1981 race which is on the Murdoc list.
