Where to aim dtv sat?
Anyone know where to aim directv sat in Punta Banda area. Moved to Cantu and cannlt find signal. Using 18' round dish, usually easy.

OK....so just aim the dish over the Astro Dome in Texas and you should have it.

The problem is that all the dish-pointer apps use the internet and unless you have a data plan for Mexico, it may be a big bill that you will receive
from your phone company.

I forgot to mention:
I'll be doing the same thing in BA in a couple of weeks. Mount the post truly level on both angles, then aim directly south.
Start moving your dish from the bottom up a little at a time until you see some kind of signal on your DTV signal meters on the TV (your wife will
help here). Then fine tune it from there.
Ensenada should be easy, and the further south you go the higher up the dish has to be.
BTW...the Alaskan citizens have to point their dish at the horizon, and need to re-point every winter and summer because of the earth's tilt.

or do what most people do, use the audible signal meters and just listen for the ping!

I carry a dish with me in the motor home always line it up using the audible signal finder on the t v box to get the general direction look around and
see which way the dishes you can see are pointing. never failed to find a signal yet.

I have always used a compass. That will give you the general direction and then you can tweak it with the audible.

Good Luck with the 18" dish..Point the dish towards the south. In Ensenada you should not have a problem finding a signal. I did a 5 week road trip
and easily found signal in Ensenada and BOLA without ever making any changes to my dish. Past BOLA I was never able to get a signal again, Pt.
Chivato, San Ignacio, Bahia Asuncion, Mulege were all a no go with my 18" round DTV dish.

an easy fix to squeeze out extra signal strength is to ditch the opaque LNB cover in favor of a clear plastic one

I finally found it last night at approx. 141 azimuth and 54 degrees elevation i would have been much easier had I plugged the audio cables into the
proper jacks. Just by luck, my wife happened to be looking at the tv when signal appeared and she screamed at me to stop and back up. 5 minutes later
I had it locked in at 95% signal. I read that South of BOLA it takes a 30" dish or larger to get a signal and in the more southernly parts of Mexico
it is harder but can be acquired with an even larger dish. Thanks for all the responses.
