La Paz, Baja California Sur (BCS). La Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) anunció la reclasificación de tarifas en la ciudad de La Paz y algunas otras comunidades aledañas, lo que permitirá la reducción del monto a pagar del servicio a partir del próximo mes, informaron autoridades en reunión sostenida esta mañana en La Paz.

En una reunión donde también estuvieron presentes directivos de la CFE, el gobernador Marcos Covarrubias señaló que la reclasificación corresponde de la tarifa 1D a 1E, y señaló que serán beneficiados un total de 84 mil 340 usuarios.

En un esquema para ejemplificar el nuevo esquema, el mandatario indicó que si un usuario con la tarifa doméstica anterior pagaba 2 mil 051 pesos mensuales, ahora pagará mil 100 pesos, por lo que dijo, lo anterior será de beneficio para muchas familias de este municipio.

Las ciudades y comunidades beneficiadas son La Paz, San Pedro, Álvaro Obregón, Los Planes, Agua Amarga, El Sargento, La Ventana, Reforma Agraria, Conquista Agraria, y Ejido de Bonfil, mientras que El Triunfo pasará de la tarifa 1A a la 1B.

Another point of view is that this (increase of the subsidy) will simply postpone the day when folks are forced to do something about their inefficient use of power.

I wish the CFE would instead of encouraging wasteful energy consumption, channel those subsidies into financing home improvements to REDUCE domestic energy use.

Those who most benefit from this change in zone you report, are a minority of heavy air conditioning users whose cooling "needs" eat up the subsidies. This really isn't necessary; many of my neighbors here in La Paz rarely if ever even run air conditioners; for example, the June-July bill here at this 3-bedroom house was 260 pesos...

It would be interesting to have a LaPazian nomad drive out by the site and report on activity. I hope it is not yet another paper project.....
