SD license plates and USA insurance
am thinking of getting SD plates, as emissions testing exemption in AZ is hard to get (try finding a local police officer to sign the english form
certifying the vehicle is in Baja). how do you guys with SD plates handle US car insurance when you travel NOB?
reality\'s never been of much use out here...

I have a yearly liability policy from Colorado and a Mexican Policy from Lewis and Lewis. Most of the Mexican policies require you to have a US
LIability coverage.

Elena Bretts is an agent here in Ensenada. Best way to start with her is a phone call. She'll explain the rest.
The liability costs around 100 Ps per day for a short period. Less expensive for longer periods.
I don't have any numbers on the amount of coverage available.
She writes policies for a company in Texas.
She has lots of local clients who would recommend her.

GEICO wants to charge me almost five hundred dollars a year for absolute minimum liability. Guess what? You get sued for one dollar more than they can
cover under your policy and you're screwed. Cough up the dough. Haven't been back the the states since Feb 2012. And I'm supposed to keep liability
and smog on my vehicle? The EXPENSIVE hundred dollar annual smog test? Bend someone's fender? Got ten grand?

Dennis I called her quite a while ago when I asked the same question. She told me I had to have my mex insurance with her before she would give me us
daily insurance. I haven't checked again since then . Do you suppose things have changed k

I don't know what's up with that, Keri. I never had Mex insurance with her.
Give her a call.
I don't need the one day policy any more. I'm only using my Jeep for trips abroad and I have full coverage on both sides.

I have my Mexican insurance thru Vagabundos. I declared my vehicle as full time in Mexico and am not required to carry US insurance. When I go to the
states, I call my agent in Colorado Springs and he reinstates a liability policy for me. I usually let it run for a month or two and then withdraw the
vehicle..Its worked so far, minimal cost....

They don't call it "The Golden State" for nothing.
No insurance no smogee. no sello (sticker). I told the DMV in Chula Vista that the car is not in the USA, so the guy at the window goes "If it were me
I'd get license plates for wherever the car is at".
The fools want to start putting parking meters in (painted blue of course) in disabled parking zones. Disabled plates, for a 50 year old junker now
cost the same as regular plates for a 50 year old car.
WANTED! State constitutional amendment.
Absolutely zero pay, salary, benefits, expense account freeze for the next ten years for politicians and elected officials.

Perhaps it's different for us, Canucks where registration is tied to insurance, so please correct me if I'm wrong.
- You pay Co registration and get Co plates.
- Declare the vehicle full time in Mexico - declare to whom? DMV? And they give you a permanent sticker?
- If sticker on the Co plates is not permanent, it will expire no matter whether you have Mex insurance or not. You might be legal, but Mex cops don't
know until they pull you over, and when they do, I wouldn't expect anything good.

I have South Dakota plates, a Colorado address . The Insurance POLICY is written by Vagos (check their site) as a full time Mexican vehicle. I have
been checked and no problems...
