What was the $442 for, a HUMMER H-1? It all depends on the value of the rig if it is for full coverage.

In '99 Jeep Wagoneer was made?
I thought only they retired that name by then. No matter...
Then that price you got from AAA is over double the going rate. You can use the Internet to get quotes from several Mexican insurance dealers.
In my site (under Baja Travel Web Sites) is the link to Lewis & Lewis (rated #1 by several Nomads), Discover Baja Travel Club(personally used,
requires $39 membership), and Baja Bound (personally used for short trips... print policy at your home ... not a bargain for an annual policy).
Then I would also check the link that Tio Rocky posted above. Uncle Rocky is a good guy!

Disclosure
Not trying to sell anything here but to fair I should disclosure that I own www.drivemexico.net ?.
Fill out one form and receive four quotes from four separate underwriters. All Insurance from DriveMexico is from true Mexican Insurance companies
with all being A rated or higher?. The advantage is if you have a problem in Mexico you may require representations, most US companies selling Mexican
Insurance can not represent you?
Anyway,,,, just thought I should throw that in there?.

cheap insurance
We belong to the Vagabundos and they have always had good deals on insurance for usfor yearly rates. Although, I needed insurance for another car for
two days as my son is coming down for turkey day and I got the best rate over the net at mexicaninsurance.com. They were the cheapest by far for
Qualitas, full coverage. Take the time to shop. Good luck
Mick
Getting there is ALL the fun!
Ok being here is fun to

Try Progresive Ins.
The large amount you are being quoted is to cover any damage to your rig, not just liabilty (which you need in Mexico) I'm not sure if Progresive
offers the protection any longer (I've been told not, but lucky me, I have a "grandfather clause") Check them out first, then you might want to
switch?.....then as recommended here Lewis & Lewis would be the way to go. I pay less than $100 per year.

lewis and lewis seems to be the best i could find also. 7k replacement + uninsured motorist for +/- $200 usd/year.
at the drive-ups near the border it's +/- $10/day and i need 5 days in dec =$50 + 14-17 days in june (b4 schools regurgitate their pupils) =$140-170
=A DEAL!
and that doesn't even take into account the 1-3 day/weekend jaunts to BCN this summer for hurricane surf.

Regardless of what you pay and with whom you insure with, READ and understand your policy. Not all policies are created equal. Some do not insure if
the occurrence happens off a paved road. The legal representation may only be $250 which isn't going to pay for much. Towing? Understand your
responsibilities after an accident re notification; repairs inside/outside Mexico. And if you're buying insurance one day at a time, you don't need
insurance for the time your vehicle is parked at a campsite - only for the days you're driving it.

doug, not "revelevant"? i had to pay twice for my annual policy when that all happened and db didnt even tell us policy holders the truth, they sold
us policies that had no insurance company backing...many people had losses that were never paid. db knew the surplus line broker, padilla, had no
company backing and they sold the policies anyway.
not just relevant but the truth today!
i heard they lost their license for all of this
so, what do you consider to be revelevant, when YOU get ripped off?

I am not aware of any misconduct by Discover Baja. There were obviously some business decisions that didn't go well here (which yes, would have some
significance in choosing a provider - but they now have a six year positive track record as well), but is there evidence of misconduct? If so, where,
or from who?
If not, please refrain from such defamatory and libelous accusations.

Department of Insurance sanctions
doug, your own post provides the evidence of the penalty for the misconduct of Discover Baja Insurance.
I lost several hundred dollars in the fiasco also, the penalty you posted was applied to Discover Baja for misconduct. Their license to sell was
revoked.
we dont mind the past as the past, but, lets learn from the lesson. I get my insurance from reputeable sources now.
don't sink your head in the baja sands doug!

also, dont forget for the department to revoke the license takes a very serious violation.
And a fine of $100!!!
Fined and the license REVOKED.
Ask any insurance company/agency whether they had their license to sell in california REVOKED. Rare, it takes a serious violation. DB was also forced
to pay back many policy holders for losses, db admitted so much on the amigos net.
unless db is paying some payola for this board, careful mi amigo! Mucho lodo regarding this subject.
