FMM question
My girlfriend and I will be driving to Cabo soon and we'll be getting our FMM in TJ. She will be flying back to San Diego from Cabo.
My question is, does she need to get her FMM stamped in Baja Sur for her return flight to the US? Im guessing the stamp in TJ is all thats required
but I want to be 100% before ditching her at the Cabo airport
Im pretty sure that its a Federal Visa and not state by state right?
Also, I have yet to get a FMM at the new TJ crossing. Is the immigration office and place to pay located there? Open 24hrs?
Im hoping its as easy as the old one...

Yes, federal... stamped once, when you get it... and not again in another state. They might look at it when your cross into Baja Sur, that's all.

Probably a lot of visitors don't do it that way, drive then
fly back. But as posted. get the fmm at TJ get it stamped, there usually
is a line on the form that you write down your destination
in Mex, in this case San Jose Del Cabo, on International
flights out of Mex, Mex Imm will usually collect fmm's
when boarding the plane in Mex coming back, on domestic
flights, such as to TJ they usually don't

I think your GF will have to have her passport book with here, just so you don't have it in your pocket when the plane takes off.
Isn't that how it works? PP book....not the card?

The airline will collect the document before they issue a boarding pass. They scan the date, the name, etc in 5 seconds and then it's all over. Adios.
A little bit more involved with other classes of INM documentation.

They don't actually stamp you 'out' when you fly into TJ, though... I've still got a (long-expired) FMM that I need to get resolved before I fly
anywhere else in the interior. (Any suggestions?)

Yep, need a passport book for entry by air.
The card is only good for entry by land, (or sea).

When did INM or the airlines start checking migracion documents for point to point interior Mexico flights? This is news to me...

I always return fmm's before they expire, get an exit
stamp behind an entry stamp, etc. But have never read a CONFIRMED report of a traveller being fined or denied
another fmm due to the previos one being not returned
or expired. Have heard rumors, just never confirmed. If visitors
were being hassled, fined, etc., by Mex Imm due to expired
fmm's, there would be dozens of reports. They do track
fmm's, but don't seem to have a penalty for expired one's,
I would not worry about an expired fmm, but it is Mex

They only check for point-to-point interior flights that fly from the "free" zone to the interior. Since TIJ is in the free zone, you have to buy (or
show) an FMM before you're allowed in to the check-in area. I suppose technically you could fly to Juárez or Mexicali, but even those require a
stopover in GDL or MEX, which requires a tourist card.
Oddly, they check your FMM on the way IN to Tijuana, but they don't mention anything about cancelling it and I forgot all about it (and just try to
get to the INM office at San Ysidro from the Mexican side!)
