Loretp_Zaragossa damage??
Howdy all!!
Just got back from Yuma and Borrego Springs working on some weather damage in a balmy 105F @ 70% humidity...makes roofs fun. Catching up on the mail
Western Outdoor News had a mention of weather damage in Loreto and Colonia Zaragossa. Does anyone have any info on that? I emailed a couple of folks
but no answers yet. We will be back down in October for about a month of Baja Time.
Thanks!!!

The Arroyo was widened by about 150 ft. Concrete road was completely destroyed. Passage to Zaragosa is now through the water about 200 yards west of
where the concrete road was. Lots of Low wash damage to the highway so be careful. Expecting more rain so damage will continue through September
possibly October. Look me up when you get down here

October Loreto plans

Thanks! Last year we planned to be there in October but had to hold off because of the storm. This year the plan is renting a friend's place in the
Colonia and I just got an email from him so we will try to work it out/play it by ear. The road to San Javier looks pretty horrendous. Bonnie usually
go to Augie's for happy hour when we are in town and I hope to have my Mexican reciprocal Ham license this trip.

This photo was taken on Sunday the 1st, after both storms

Two small homes near the beach along the San Telmo arroyo were also washed away.

In the photo above is that Calle Independencia with the four cars passing?
Is that Madero with a remnant of pavement to the right of the wing?
I hope your house fared well, and that Julie and DeWayne's roof didn't leak...
or ours for that matter!

Paula.....Yes. Independencia extended. Access to the Colonia from el centro is now due south of the stop light by the Pescador and across the
arroyo.
There has been no running water in the arroyo for the past three or four days, but the lagoon at the mouth now extends up the arroyo past the old
paved road (Madero/Manuel Pineda)by the Sunday market that was washed out.
For the past couple of days truckloads of sand/gravel have been dumped on the new access road to smooth the rough ride over the rocks. It will be
interesting to see if the sand and gravel survive the next round early next week.

Paula,
I flew down last Wednesday and out on Sunday to initiate roof repairs.....we had some water in the house, and a damaged rug. Not bad, no complaints,
really. But we are repairing cracks, and applying fabric and impermealizante over all.
J& 's house fared perfectly, and I am following their repair advice. They did
the research and know what materials will work.
I hope Bill's place in Zaragoza and your home were spared damage as well.

We flew down for the weekend and noticed from the north rim at Madero overlooking the arroyo that both the taller and the fish-smoking/fighting
rooster-guy are completely gone. Not a trace they ever existed. The mechanic lost a number of client's cars that are now in the Sea of Cortez; all the
roosters were drowned in their cages and washed out into the sea. The water apparently came very fast, catching many off guard. A friend's
mother-in-law lost 15 pigs and 20 goats to the fast high waters. And a local vet never found her missing dog.

Loretana, I hope your repairs do well, I'm sure they will. We had ours done last winter with several coats of impermealizante, but no fabric. Our
cracks were small, and we'll learn in a few weeks if it held up well.
Marla, I read yesterday in the Sudcaliforniano that the health department is warning people not to eat clams and other mariscos for an indefinite
time.
Now we see why!

Diane.....I had no water at all in my 25 year old palapa with 4 year old ajos, and also no wind damage. The wind never got over 30 knots, or so.
The main storm damage in Zaragosa was from rain that fell in the mountains and flooded the arroyo. Not only was the paved road by the Sunday market
taken out, but the high water also undercut the bank on the south side and 15 -20 houses that have been getting closer and closer to the arroyo with
each storm over the passing years fell in and were washed into the SOC. The water rose slowly enough that people in the affected houses were
evacuated and there were no fatalities.
There is as much trash on the beach as I've ever seen, and the mosquito population has exploded. Trucks are on the streets at dusk spraying
insecticide.

Here's a photo of the marina the morning after the first storm.
Telephone/Internet service was out for about a week in the Colonia, but water and electricity never for over a few hours.

Bill,
Is the existing ramp even usuable without dredging the marina?
That's an ugly photo.

Ken......The marina was out of commission for a week or so, but during that time the water conditions were bad enough nobody wanted to launch anyway.
It has since been cleaned up enough that a few boats are getting in and out, but very cautiously......

sad time
Thanks all for the posts. Wow, quite a mess and not a word on TV up here at all. I did finally get an email from friends in Zaragossa, short and to
the point..shoveling sand from the house. Was there flooding along Benito Juarez too, near Iguana Inn? Was the worst of it from Loreto south or was
Mulege smacked again too?
