ATM Withdrawal Fees

I live here in Baja but all my business is done through a US bank. I presently use a free checking account at Washington Mutual and withdraw my living expenses from the ATM?s here. I usually withdraw $500 US each visit to the ATM and pay a $5 dollar fee per withdraw.

Does anyone know a better or cheaper way to do this?

Thanks

Tio Rocky

We bank with US Bank. Currently the only charge I now get is a $1.25 fee from Banamex. Got 5,000 pesos last Friday, $452.81.

PayPal

I was also told that PayPal only charges a buck and a half.... if so that would be best because most of my income comes thru them then I transfer it to my bank.....

I use San Diego County Credit Union and I don't get charged a fee on that side of the border, amazingly enough.

City Bank in conjunction with Banamex has a special account for those who live in Mexico. There are no fees.

not City Bank

It's Citi Bank, since Citi owns Banamex all you need is a checking or savings account at Citi and an ATM card, this will allow you to get $500.00 USD in Pesos per day with out any fee, that special account lets you get $5000.00 a day($5.00charge) or $25000.00 a week($25.00 charge)...California Commerce Bank(owned by Citi) also has special accounts for retires that live in Mexico...

Tio Rocky
Just remember that PayPal is notorious for locking up accounts for various reasons, and that would be spooky to rely on them as your main lifeline for dinero. If you use them, have a backup.

Bank of America !!!

I am surprised that no one has mentioned that Bank of America owns 2 Mexican Banks, and has shares in another.
Therefore there IS NO ATM charge when you use Santander Serfin Bank, Scotia Inverlat Bank, or HSBC Bank.
I use them often, and no charge.
Also, forget about Wells Fargo. I moved accounts from them since they always charge.

Saludos, mc

bank fees???

We are 24/7/12 in Mulege and use whatever banks are in Loreto and Santa Rosalia. Our Marin County S&L and the local banks have never charged anything...this Baja bank thing must be in the last two weeks...si or no?
