Unmounted new tires
I have a friend who picked up 4 unmounted new tires that I ordered. He is in California coming down next week. I know he will stop and declare them
and pay the importation fees.
After reading several old posts here, I am confused. Are unmounted new tires authorized to be imported? I can't find an answer to this online.
Thank you for any help on this.

I don't have any experience with it myself but from friends I have heard that unmounted tires are forbidden. I have gotten a few across but they were
on top of my shell and it wasn't obvious that they were not mounted. Good luck with yours. That is a lot of money to lose.

I brought quad tires down on top of the Explorer and they had a huge grin when I pulled up in the no declare lane. Of course they let me lie about the
cost but the duty is higher than regular stuff. Or so they said. I've bought my BFG KO"s locally and the cost isn't that much more. If you add duty
there cheaper here. Problem is no one in this area, I know of, has a balance machine anymore.

Thanks for the replies.
I called my friend today and suggested that he take them back and I'll just buy my tires here. Too much of a hassle to put him through at the border.

Santa Fe auto parts, across from the malecon has a balance machine.

My biggest problem is that mine are 16" and hard to find. I want All Terrain. I found them at Costco Cabo for $2,600 pesos each or $3,400 at like
Goodyear or Michelin. The same tire in the US was $144 USD each. I agree, with the importation and hassle factor it's going to end up being cheaper
here.

Check out Monroy's in La Paz, had good luck with the tires. Run 16in. load range E on truck and 5th wheel. Rosales y Josefa Ortiz
