Low jack in Baja
Was on low jack website and didn't see a quick answer. Does low jack work all over Baja? Is it just monitored by Mexico or can USA pick up the USA ?

Forget the Lo-Jack, get a SPOT. Also have a travel plan and use common sense.

When I bought my Jeep in san Diego, the dealer said there would be no sense in getting it installed since it's useless in Mexico.

Lo-Jack has a presence in Mexico, however it is technology heavy and requires special equipment in police cars to receive the Lo-Jack radio signal.
There are also computer requirements for the law enforcement agency.
Lo-Jack has installed the equipment in a few locations. The police in Tijuana work closely with the CHP Border Unit and have recovered stolen cars
equipped with Lo-Jack.
Lo-Jack is also working with some Mexican agencies and paying a "bounty" for recovered vehicles.
SPOT offers real-time tracking you can see on your computer......but SPOT or Lo-jack are dependent on someone wanting to use them.

There's always the chance my car will be towed by thief's in Baja. It's not probable though.
Short of this, there's no way thief's will drive my car off. Even if they had a transponder key, they'd never find the 2 hidden kill switches.
And then there's the siren alarm that cannot be disabled without removing the siren attached deep inside the engine compartment.
SPOT's good too. Don't let your vehicle get stolen.

Older vehicles can have a hidden switch inline on the negative battery cable, can't be started or jump started.

..........SPOT is a satellite (not cell dependent) tracking system. Coverage/service area is almost worldwide, including Mexico. The new SPOT
generation 3 device is smaller than a pack of regular sized cigarette. I have used it numerous times all over the US and up and down Baja with no
problems.
Spot has three basic functions......
Tracking Function- You can set up to 50 e-mail accounts to receive a SPOT tracking signal. Every 10 minutes, SPOT "pings" a satellite and plots it on
a map. People who you designate can then track your progress every 10 minutes so you can see where SPOT is. Mike Younghusband used a SPOT when he
walked down Baja and we were able to follow his route.
Help Function - Sends a pre programmed message to people you designate that you need help in a non-life critical event such as a car breakdown
911 Function - Sends an emergency message to a control center staffed 24/7/365 (and people you designate). The control center then contacts the
military or law enforcement agency nearest to where you are for a (search and) rescue event. I believe your SPOT subscription includes a $100,000
rescue benefit.

........SPOT is available on line directly from SPOT or at major sporting goods stores. Once you have the device, you can subscribe for basic or
expanded servises
Additionally you can also get supplemental worldwide evacuation insurance
"Mexico connections"
.........there are no "Mexico connections". SPOT is a world wide service that works in Mexico.
