Looking for Recent Mex 1 Road Conditions
We'll be heading south in about a week in our pickup pulling a 5th wheel. We'll be crossing at Tecate, hooking up with Mex 1 and headed all the way to
La Paz. Any recent information concerning outages, nasty detours, or other info would be appreciated.

Loreto area:
From Loreto, south to the Agua Verde turn off, (35 miles south of Loreto) there are 4 spots that are dirt/gravel for a short ways.
Easily passable.....I did it on a heavy road moto no problem.
One low spot that still had pavement, had a small trout stream flowing across.....no trout but it's only an inch or so deep. Should be dry in a week.

Some minor road repair south of San Q. Maybe two-three miles of off road driving. Beware: the potholes seem to be bigger this winter. Have a safe
trip.

Tecate south construction
Construction on Hwy 3 about 6-8 miles south of Tecate. Detour is graded and has a gravel base, construction area is well marked.

There was a two mile stretch of Mex 1 leaving Vizcaino toward San Ignacio that had a rough detour several weeks ago. Surely they have made it better
by now. Entering Vizcaino on the Guerrero Negro side, expect nasty pavement for a mile or two before you reach town. Even in a car I slow to 25 mph. I
think I would shave 5-7 mph off that if I were towing. But then I drive slow anyway...

Rt 1 to La Paz
We did San Diego to Loreto three weeks ago and La Paz Loreto last week.
1: South of San Vincente in the vineyard area there is 1-2 mile stretch of dirt where the road is being rebuilt
2: Santispac/Burro south for about 20 miles resurfacing and wash out repairs but no biggie.
3: South of Loreto several repairs being done from past storm damage, no problem.
4: South bound from Constitution for about 2 miles road rebuild with dirt bypass similar to San Vincente.
The rest was pretty 'Baja normal' so you should be OK all the way.

Got to Santa Rosalia last nite and their are 3 places south of Santo Tomas with road work.
Rest of the way is awesome.

Arrived Loreto yesterday, pulling 5th wheel. All bad areas well marked all the way down. If staying in Loreto lots of the streets are still flooded,
with large pot holes. Come in off high. 1 north end of town if you are going to Rivera Del mar come in on Independencia, left on preparatory, left on
madero and you are there. Slow is fast Cliff

For those of you going to Cabo San Lucas: The road just leaving Todos Santos to Cabo (Hwy 19) is now tore up and they have put in a badly constructed
dirt road beside it. It is only for a mile or two, but just a heads up.

Left San Diego on Thursday morning, crossed at Tecate with zero problems. Drove to San Quintin yesterday and stayed at the Old Mill in the old rooms,
$37 USD.
Had a great dinner at the Molino Viejo next door. First time eating there and what a lovely place, beautiful wood work, some stamped concrete and a
huge deck out front to view the water and the launch ramp. Had fresh yellowtail, wife had corvina and capers, soup, guacaomole con totopos, 4
margaritas, AND a flan, gulp. Bill was $500 pesos
Today we had breakfast at the Mission Santa Maria(old La Pinta), just south of San Quintin, and it was excellent. Drove out to Cielito Lindo to view
one of our former trailer spots. The caretaker was not very friendly to say the least and we left without even putting feet on the ground.
Launched for San Ignacio and, again, no problems. Back to our opinion on the roads, overall, very good. The few detours were all pretty hardpacked
dirt and no problem driving 25 mph or so in a Toyota Sienna, not exactly an off road rig.
On one hand, the wider sections of the hwy make driving more comfortable. On the other hand those that wring their hands over the current state of
the roads might consider flying. IF the roads get much better we will be overwhelmed with Snow Birds, more like us!!!!!

Arrived in La Paz on Saturday and our experience was also that road construction was well marked ahead of time and pulling our 5th wheel all was
passable. And the roads are getting wider. We could have done without the blowout 112 kilometers north of La Paz - but it just added to the adventure.
The desert is spectacular - green, lush, and almost doesn't look like desert in places.
