Bahia Tortugas to San Jose de Castro to Asuncion
Blanca? Shari? Any nomads?
Is the shortcut/coastal road passable with 2WD standard car lately?
Even if it's slow going?
Or do Nomads recommend the longer paved route?
I will NOT be in my own vehicle that I know and trust.
I WILL be solo.
By now, you know I like an adventure, but giving serious pause to this idea, as it will be my virgin trip to this part of the peninsula.

Bring an air compressor. Dropping tire pressure will amaze you in sand. Oh, have a good gauge that reads less than 10psi.

This is the road used by the locals all the time and the condition can change from week to week. We never used 4wd on it, but after rains, there were
some washouts that needed to navigated carefully if you don't have high clearance.
Also, there was always one area where there was VERY soft silt, but one can drive around it. And the locals always warned us to be very careful in
the mountain part because the locals drive too fast!
Maybe someone has been on it in the last couple of months and if no one answers, I can ask a few friends. In can be very lonely at times.
One time definitely NOT to drive this road is after Tortugas plays baseball in Bahia Asuncion --- we made that mistake once.
It is a beautiful drive through some beautiful country.

I'm not sure which road you mean...the back road from Tortugas to Asuncion is rough and dangerous as cars drive super fast and there are alot of blind
curves...faster to take the paved road back to the Asuncion turnoff.
The road from Asuncion to LB is rough but fine for 2Wdrive....but yeah, deflate tires a bit for a smoother ride and less likely to get a
blowout...it's lobster season so there is alot of traffic and roads are graded more often.

Thanks DianaT.
Thanks BajaRat.
Thanks Shari.
Thanks Blanca.
I shall play it by ear. I like a slow, lonely, quiet drive. But I'm no dummy, either. Especially in a strange, humble vehicle.
See you all in a few days.
