Depends on what you want it to do. If you are tying directly to the hook and want 100% of line strength, the only knot to consistently do that is the Double San Diego Jamb Knot, but it has been shown to be a very poor knot in line test less than 20 lb. Then the testing machines show a marked improvement in the clinch knot which does not cut into itself as badly as the jamb knot.

Bimini knots were tested and found to be strongest with only 12 twists and Allbrights were found to be most effective at 7 twists.

We used to spend a lot of time on windy days in fish camp having contests to see whose knot held the best. I won a lot of beer on that one.

Are you talking about sailing or fishing knots?

My all-time favorite knot is the bolen. Strong holding power and ease of dis-assembly.

Me too. The bolen is used for so many things, and always is so simple but effective, and so easy to untie.

When there is a hot bite and you are in a hurry, it is hard to beat the speed and simplicity of the Palomar knot.
