RV Trip South
I planning an RV trip south at the end of December to Cabo. I've driven (by car) Hwy 1 before but was hoping to cut over to San Felipe, head south
and rejoin Hwy. 1. I'm not familiar with that route or if it even possible (or passable!). Anyone have any experience with this? It's a 32' Class A
rig.

what I have been hearing is, the road is nice until you get to Gonzaga bay,,, then its pretty bad until you get to Hwy 1
I don't think I would take a RV

You might make it.............if............
Your rig has ground clearance in excess of 18" between axles
And 24" - 30" to the rear holding tank
And extremely tough construction to resisting flexing, twisting, and a rocky road surface.
I didn't write the above to be facetious, but to provide answers above and beyond a simple "No"

The new paved highway ends on the north side of Gonzaga Bay (about 100 miles south of San Felipe)... it is 38 graded, but ROUGH dirt miles on to Hwy.
1. In a motorhome, that will be like 4 hours driving and rattling apart.

Wow, thanks for the advice. Saves me from doing all of the route planning for nothing! I may consider just a round trip to San Felipe which sounds
like it would be okay?

Just drove that route about two weeks ago. Having owned motorhomes & travel trailers the last 55 years, let me tell you. If you hate your
motorhome, DO IT. If you "love" your motorhome, please don't even consider it. If it is wood framed, you'll end up with every staple & nail,
loosened. The torquing on that road would be brutal to any motorhome. But when it finally gets paved, hell yes, go that way. It will cut off MILES
of distance saved. Plus, no more having to drive through all the farming communities. We loved that drive down couple weeks ago. And going back
that way, but will be doing it a whole lot slower over the 36 miles of unpaved road. Some of the area is like driving through those danged round
metal speed bumps, but maybe 1/4 mile of it compared to maybe 8" of the 'city' kind. Hopefully the Toyota sienna will survive the 'return' trip
without developing "rattles. I hate 'rattles. Didn't develop one on the southbound trip. I was amazed.!!!!!! 2011 must have been a great year for
quality control.
