Car rental and insurance in La paz

First of all, thank you all for your input on using an ATT cell phone in Mexico. Our guests and traveling companions are very thankful.

We would like to rent a car in La Paz airport upon our arrival and keep it for a few days (3, 4, ?). I never have a handle on how much I am going to pay because of additional insurance requirements I need or I am talked into. I don't want truble while I am there but I'm not concerned about damage to the car. I just care about big-time damages (liability). I will use my AMEX card for the rental and, of course, I am fully insured through AAA in California.

What's the best deal I can expect? What insurance do I need and should I get it online or at the counter. We are not likely to go back to La Paz for another year after this so no long-term insurance.

Thanks in advance,

Mirko
