Yellowtail (King Size)

I have fished the San Marcos, San Lucas Cove area for a lot of years, but yesterday I heard a rumor from some of my friends that a really big school of very large yellowtail had moved in to an area that rarely, if ever, holds fish. The people who shared that with me are not prone to stretching things, so Rigo and I went to Santa Rosalia early to make bait. There is no bait anywhere else that we could find. We had no problem with a lot of big eyed scad or Cabaliito and headed back to this area, which is usually an area where we can find spanish mackerel. I have never seen anything like it for as long as I can remember. This place is called the Vee and is about 1 mile east of the cliffs south of Santa Rosalia. There must have been 15 or more pangas there and no gringo boats at all. We limited out before 9 and had 3 fish that weighed in on good scales at over 40 pounds. In our water a 40 pounder is rare and three is unheard of. At any given time there would be as many as 8-10 people hooked up at the same time and we had three triples. My arms hurt now.

Good to hear! I'd like to come down and fish San Marcos this spring. Is there anyone you would recommend for a panga rental in San Lucas Cove?

Rigo is the best guide I know in the area. He has a center console panga and does a great job with clients and speaks enough english to get by. 615-104-9850

Fastest that kayak will ever go. What an adventure and using light rod and small Penn reel too.

Pesky: looks like our small ones have finally left BOLA and headed south, thank goodness. I hate wading thru those 40# schoolies to get the big ones.
