ROAD TRIP
Well, it is January and time for two(or three) viejos to make their annual road trip (in the old days that would have struck fear in the hearts of
civilized people but now not so much :lol .
This year we want to go to San Juanico (we live in Los Barriles) and then on to Loreto.
My first question is where is the closes place (to San Juanico) we could find a couple of beds to sleep in and some place to get some grub and a cold
cervasa.
My second question is should I go back to Insurgentes and to Loreto or is the road from San Isidro to hi way one decent (I will be driving a 08 chevy
duramax).
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

cjtlet - here is an older thread where I posted pics of the casitas .. we really had a good time there and they are dogfriendly too.

Thank you Ateo and BajaBlanca for your Info. I have made reservations to stay there for a couple of days.
I still would like to know what the dirt road from San Isidro to hi way 1 is like?
Any information will be appreciated.

Very rough.
63 KM or something and over 4 hours. Some 4X4 needed.

We preran San Isidro to Highway 1 for the 1000 a year ago, and it was beat up really bad in the higher elevation sections, thanks to recent hurricane
Pablo. The west side of the hill wasn't bad at all, but then we got into rock jumbles which were pretty impressive. That said, it's a year later.

Yeah, I wouldn't take that road unless you're in for an adventure and have 4x4. It took me maybe 3-4 hours last time (2008??). I did it in a non 4X4
F150.

It's probably worse now. After the rains of the last 2 years and no maintenance.
I did it last May in a F250 diesel 4X4 - live in San Nicolas - which is a bad road - and the road to San Isidro is much worse. Took us over 4 hours.

I stayed there last November and was very pleased with the people and the place. For one person it ran around 450 pesos, I really do not remember the
exact $ amount but I considered it a very good bang for the buck. Nice people with a very good taco stand right across the street.

Thank you all for your info. I think I will just go back to Insurgentes and then on to Puerto Escondido ( I hope the clam shack has a good supply of
chocolates ). As usual nomads has been a wealth of information,.

Casitas is a great place to stay, Buros is good, but there a little toco place across thye street from casitas that is really good I think she only
does does lunch and dinner though. there are a couple of other place to eat, but we did not have time to try them. This was last year in Feb so as
always thing change.
San Juanico is a nice road trip but i would come back on the pavement if we go that way again. we stay north of Loreto so it was a pretty big trip
over there, we though the east road would be shorter to get home, but it took a lot of time .
east road was very rough and I would not try without 4x4. not sure I would even do it again unless it has had some maint.
