Bummer! This was a nice aircraft, it left Loreto 15 minutes early, and got me into LAX in time for the early flight to Portland.

Oh, well.

I wonder if Volaris or Interjet will step in.

Bummer is right. That LAX - Loreto flight time was late enough in the day that you could make the connection from a flight from the East/Mid-west (for relatives) so no LAX overnight stay was necessary.

I'll bet the reason they are canceling the flight is that Homex is out of the picture in Loreto Bay. The flight was a direct connection to Culiacan where Homex has their headquarters. Maybe they were sponsoring the flight. This is another one of the those unexplained disappearing acts in Loreto like the recent departure of Banamex. More sad news.

...and for some reason, unknown to me, real estate is still multiples more expensive than in La Paz. I haven't understood that "phenomenon" for the past 7 years.

Maybe with Mr. Slim's investment cash going into Loreto he can make a call to someone and get a decent carrier and schedule into Loreto..oh yeah, and price. LAX-LTO last summer was like $440-$750 RT, ridiculous.........I am also baffled at the money being spent there by people, they can't all possible drive to LTO......remember when Delta and Alaska flew real jets there MD-88 , awwww those were the days.

Tenets of market based capitalism say that if there is profit to be made from adequate demand in an economy for a given product, entrepreneurs will flock to the scene of the demand and provide the product. Sometimes entrepreneurs make mistakes about the sustainability and/or the quantity of the demand or make mistakes about the costs to provide the product/service and may then withdraw. It happens, it all happens.

Bottom line, I think that sufficient and adequate sustainable demand for flights to Loreto just hasn't been there.

Loreto never seems to get it together with reasonable air connections. So many airlines come and go.

Since 1972, I can remember these:

Air Cortez
Aeromexico
Aero California
Mexicana
Resort Airlines
Gunnell Airlines

I've flown all these airlines to Loreto and/or Mulege over the years. Now that AeroMexico is quitting Loreto, none fly there anymore.

Here's a wrinkled photo of Air Cortez at the Serinadad pista in Mulege..back in the day. I once flew as co-pilot from Mulege to Ontario. Quite a day that was..with the pilot opening a thermos of whiskey/coffee and doing some barn-storming along the way....all of which seemed rather normal at the time. ;)

On that one particular flight out of Mulege to Ontario, I'm extremely glad that we didn't end up something like this:

I have always wondered why an airline that flies south to La Paz wouldn't simply schedule a brief stop over at Loreto.

Maybe the numbers just don't work out profitably...obviously more expensive and time consuming for a full plane to land and then take off from Loreto than to go straight thru to La Paz. That could be a reason to charge more to the Loreto bound passengers if they could get it from them.

Now that the cabin doors are always closed, how do we know that they are not drinking more, having sex, and smoking pot...especially since they are exercising more privacy? Just kidding.
