Mood: Move on. It is just a chapter in the past, but don't close the book- just turn the page

The Ministry of Communications and Transport confirmed that the Scenic Road resumes its original path after a series of studies establishing that reconstruction is feasible and that will add a route to bypass junction Ensenada.

In a statement from the SCT was reported that after two months of detailed studies in the affected area , the feasibility of reconstructing the original section , through the installation of infiltration galleries , drainage , construction of piles and a causeway, it was found that be placed in the area bordering the sea.

The studies showed that the slip was caused by a series of recorded in the area, combined with the presence of rain water on top of the plateau runoff and groundwater flow , generating terrain softening earthquakes.

Although landslides can not be avoided , having an efficient drainage system and keep dry the embankment will give stability to the road.

It is estimated that this work will be completed by the last quarter of the year as both the free road Tijuana- Tecate - Ensenada and El Sauzal will continue as alternate routes to move to port.

The construction process will be implemented at kilometer 93 of the scenic highway provide great security to people moving again in the area and will be supervised by staff SCT and Federal Roads and Bridges ( CAPUFE ) with support from the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education of Ensenada ( CICESE ) .

In the case of the new route is to avoid heavy vehicles traveling through the fault zone and can connect directly to bypass Ensenada, to thereby expedite the flow of trucks that are destined for the southern state . This project involves the construction of 25 kilometers of road.

Note that in making these proposals the analysis was conducted by CAPUFE and the Directorate of Technical Services SCT where he also took into account the members of the College of Civil Engineers of Tijuana and Ensenada, staff CICESE , Government of State and the City of Ensenada who participated in the workshops .

Moreover, the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation authorized the bike ride Rosarito -Ensenada which will take place on May 3 has as a route for the scenic road , so it will be enabled by Capufe especially step only for cyclists by the slide area .

It is noteworthy that this is the result of coordination between the three levels of government as well as academia and society organized by colleges engineers who drove and worked to reach the proposed solution .

Don't think for even a minute that this is confined to Mexico!
We had a road collapse just south of us on Hiway 89 between Page and Flagstaff AZ. It was the only way south except for a 3 hr detour to the east. In their eminent wisdom they decided to pave a sand dirt road across the Navajo Reservation as a bypass while they "studied" how to fix the 300 yds of road that collapsed. They paved 25 miles of road along with fencing and farm ingress in 90 days. BUT when the "study" period was over they say it will take 2 1/2 years to fix the 300 yds AND they are doing it the same way it was (just cut back into the hill further for the road bed). Give me 4 D10 Cats and 60 days and I'll have the road open. I said that a year ago.
