No big deal.

Was stung once on my instep and once on the tip of my middle finger.
The second one left the finger numb for a while.

Wasp sting is more painful.

I think my photographic memory ran out of film

I've been stung at least 6-8 times over the years, once right on the temple by one that fell out of a palapa roof during a hurricane. Honey bees hurt worse.

What if a dog is bit? I have a 55 lb golden. Taking the camper down in October. Just me and the pooch.

I got hit by one of those common [here, anyway] brownish gray guys that was in my shoe. Got me on the toe. It was like a bee sting and went away after about an hour.
Now...we have those nasty mustard brown colored muthas that Arizona is famous for around here as well, and I never want one of those guys in my shoe...or my life. They will flat ruin your day.

POP-EYE SCOTT.
Allow me to take a wild guess and say because there have not been dire-warnings issued by pet owners in Arizona, a 55 lb golden retriever would not be endangered by a single sting. Some really potent scorpions are found in Arizona and I cannot imagine there existing a grand danger to canines and a subsequent total blank of information or reports about it. Some dogs are stupid and will stick their snout in a scorpion's business - IMO goldens are anything but stupid. JMHO

Once. Left a climbing rope sitting out all night in the Sierra de Juárez. While stuffing the rope into a backpack, I felt something sharp on my leg (I was wearing shorts). Immediately assumed it was a cholla spine stuck on the rope which brushed my leg. Looked down to see a scorpion. Slight pain for a few seconds. Within a minute, I used a snake bite extractor pump on the sting site. Sucked out a tiny drop of clear fluid (probably mostly my own). A little worried, I waited in base camp for 10 minutes. Nothing happened, so I went off to work on a new route.
Btw, the scorpion was 8" in diameter, and 1 mm thick, with a boot imprint on it's back. After the sting of course.

Yotta see the monsters they have around here. Alacran Mamá....

Five inches in length and a body as big as a hummingbird. Best I could measure the hooked barb on the tail was just a tad shy of a quarter-inch in length. Mexicans insist they are not peligroso. Neither are 300 pound Rottweilers. So. They. Say.

It comes as no surprise that dogs that get snake-bit get it right on the end of the nose, that being the closest to the snake.
Hope dogs have enough sense to keep their nose away from alacránes.

Yeah...I learned the hard way to never ask a Mexican man in the grocery store produce department if a certain type of pepper is hot? He'll say no even if you could weld with the nasty thing.

Had one in bed with me - stung me on the right elbow and it hurt from my shoulder to my fingers for 4 days! The initial pain was wasp sting like but the following joint pain was annoying for quite a while.

Looking forward to Graham's response! For me, close, but no cigar a few times. Always careful when lifting up firewood or dead cactus.

Not that bad a sting day one, but holds on for a few days and sometimes travels to your armpit, where it takes up residence. Lymph system, I guess.
