mexican/US car insurance


Hola Nomads,
I'm a new permanent resident, looking for car insurance that covers me in both CA and Baja, spending 9 months Baja, 3 CA..........currently have my LewisnLewis policy and Mercury, seems there must be a better way,,,,,,,,,,thx

You may ask those insurers, but I doubt that policies issued by Mex insurers will cover you in CA. There should be same reciprocity as with US issued policy - it either doesn't cover you in Mex, or covers only within 30 miles and/or for a short time. Or premiums are higher if it covers.

You might try calling you current insurer. I use GEICO. GEICO will cover me for MX, but it does cost.

Is there anyway to do this with a rental car?

Bajabound wants information about the exact model of car, and and even the vehicle registration number.

Of course, I cannot know that in advance.

I can get insurance at the counter, but it more twice the cost.
