Truck crash / hazmat spill at Buenaventura

Posted on FB by Nathan at Playa Buenaventura:

"Woke up to a truck crashing around 1:30 am. Man and woman both flung from the truck onto rocks. Both alive but in critical condition. 43,000 liters of diesel pouring into the soil. Not good for the beach. Not good for the bay."

Don't count on any HAZMAT patrol to come and clean it up. The place will stink for quite a while. At least until the next major rain storm.
Just don't fish for anything on that part of the bay for a year or two.

Very bad news. Diesel tends to stay put (not turn to vapor like gas does) and 11,000 gallons would be considered pretty dangerous! I hope someone does come to clean it up. Is this a Pemex tanker?

Looks like it's a chemical trailer, not a petroleum trailer. No UN placard visible.

I'm uncertain what this rig would've been hauling. Here's a pic from Nathan. He said the man later passed away.

This is a tragedy often repeated up and down the Baja Road. We grieve for the loss of a life and for the damage to our Bay.
