U Haul trailers
I saw a vehicle with a small U Haul enclosed trailer attached parked at La Fonda. The owner was obviously in the restaurant so I did not get the
chance to ask how to get the rental agreement to include the border crossing. Has anyone towed a rental trailer into Baja? If this is possible, it is
going to save me a couple of trips at least and would be well worth the trouble.

buy one and then sell it afterwards...you may come out ahead rather than drive back and forth several times

i just bought a 10' x 6' enclosed wells cargo trailer today for a grand....they're out there and cheap.
dyslexia is never having to say you\'re yrros.

Hola,
i was going to rent a trailer from u-haul IN 2004 and take things down to los barriles. the u-haul folks said i couldn't take one into mexico and if i
tried, the mexican customs would not allow me to take it down and would just turn me around.
maybe things have changed ?

As a matter of fact, I asked a uhaul employee yesterday if they allowed their trailers across the border and he said they do not allow it.
I took a trailer across the Otay line 3 years ago, 2 trips and did not have a problem either direction. I did not ask Uhual back then and the
contract did not address the border crossing. I don't know if the contract addresses it currently.

Here's a thought and some experience on storage trailers that may help you, huesos.
Apparently U-Hual does not allow it's rentals to cross the border into Mexico, but it certainly seems to happen ...and often. I've noticed quite a
few of them in Baja Sur in the last forty years. Sometimes the paint is so faded you can just barely make out the 'U-Haul' logo on the trailers
sides. Who knows?..Maybe they were just bought in the USA...or 'otherwise obtained'...and pulled to Baja and eventually sold there. The point is
that there are a lot of old ones around...but probably not worth looking at.
So....If you have sufficient use for a newer trailer, here's an idea, much like nbacc suggested.
Buy a new or good-used trailer in the US, properly licensed, etc, and pull to Baja..then sell it after you're done with it. It normally will be worth
a bit more because IT IS THERE.
Personally, I've done it. I bought a new Hallmark 28' Car Hauler trailer with a man-door plus a rear ramp door. Filled it with household items from
California to Coyote Bay, then used as an extra car garage & mobile storage unit for a few seasons. I maintained it well and at the end of it's
use I sold it for more than the new price. (In my case to an oil company in ND, but you can think Baja..)

I bought an old U Haul 24 ft cabover cargo truck to haul all my belongings to Loreto. Had it for 3 years while my house was being built, with all
furniture and other stuff safely stored in side.
Then took it back up north and sold it for 500 bucks more than I paid for ti.

You can rent a cargo trailer from www.cabaja.com and take is across the border.
