Roosters have been slowly moving into the area for the last few weeks. My favorite place to fish them from shore is out near the lighthouse at Punta Arenas La Ventana.

I have to agree with Alan ... Go to Punta Arenas, it's worth the short drive to walk the beach at sunset casting and hooking roosters...doesn't get any better!

I found the roosters in Conception Bay feed very well at high noon, bright sun mid-day, and over low mounds or structures that keep bait near-by. I'd wait for boils (which look like Freddy Kruger doing shark imitations) and get close, cast in a silver-blue spoon. They don't like boats and motors, but if frenzied, will keep feeding. Quite the rush, quite the fight! Unfortunately, adult roosters are inedible (to Americano standards). The meat is completely dark as liver. I've only killed one, a doozy... but will release all others. However, the pan-size young'uns are delicious.
